This summer’s tournament marks the sixth consecutive World Cup that Australia have qualified for. Last time out, the Socceroos put in their best ever World Cup performance, with two wins earning a round of 16 appearance.

Grouped with the United States, Turkey, and Paraguay, the Aussies will be looking to repeat that feat in 2026. The sports betting markets think they’ve got a puncher’s chance of making the knockout rounds again.

What is the average salary for Australia players?

The average weekly salary in Australia’s 2026 World Cup squad is around £8,000. Only three of the 26-man squad play in Europe’s top five leagues, with five playing in the A-League. There aren’t any star names in there that could drag the average higher.

Some players in the squad, like Tete Yengi and Paul Okon-Engstler, are likely on considerably less than £10,000 per week.

Who are the top earning players for Australia?

Mathew Ryan, who is on around £30,000 per week, is the highest earner in the Australia squad. Jackson Irvine, Connor Metcalfe, and Harry Souttar are considered among the other high earners.

Salaries are largely defined by the club and league rather than a player’s individual ability or production. Souttar is going to be on plenty of money at Leicester, having played for the club in the Premier League. In contrast, players in Cyprus, Australia, and Scotland will generally be on smaller contracts.

How much does the Australia manager earn?

Tony Popovic is on around £500,00 per year. An exact figure for Popovic’s salary hasn’t been reported, but rumours about his previous salaries would indicate he’s around the half-million mark annually.

This would put Popovic in the bottom half of manager salaries at the 2026 World Cup. The former centre-back earned 58 caps for the Socceroos between 1995 and 2006.
