Heart Wood
HEART WOOD looked better than ever when a dominant winner of the Ryanair at the Cheltenham Festival and shades the vote over Grey Dawning, who could well be suited by this drop back in distance but had quite a hard race in the Gold Cup. Gidleigh Park was let down by his jumping in the Clarence House but he's worth another chance having split Impaire et Passe and Jango Baie in the Manifesto here 12 months ago.

Enjoying a fine season, winning 3 of his 4 starts, including a career best in the Ryanair at the Cheltenham Festival. The one to beat on that performance (ran well here as a novice).DateCourseDistGoingTypePosCheltenham2m 4f 127yGood (Good to Soft in places)Chase1/7Tramore2m 6f 170ySoftChase1/7Punchestown2m 3f 150ySoft to Heavy (Heavy in places)Chase4/10Punchestown2m 7f 39yGood to YieldingChase1/6Fairyhouse2m 3f 170ySoft to HeavyChasepu/7- 2Grey DawningJ: Harry SkeltonT: Dan SkeltonP12-134Age 911/49/45/2

Beaten only by Gaelic Warrior in the Bowl at this meeting last year and resumed with comfortable success in Betfair Chase at Haydock. Test of the Gold Cup didn't play to his strengths but still ran with credit to finish fourth. Drop back in trip in first-time headgear looks a very interesting move.DateCourseDistGoingTypePosCheltenham3m 2f 70yGood to Soft (Soft in places)Chase4/10Cheltenham3m 1f 56ySoftChase3/4Haydock Park3m 1f 125yGood to Soft (Soft in places)Chase1/5Aintree3m 210yGood to Soft (Good in places)Chase2/7Kelso2m 7f 96yGood to SoftChase1/4- 1Gidleigh ParkJ: Bryan CarverT: Harry Fry/P12-2PAge 84/14/19/2

Stepped up on hurdles form when winning Grade 2 Windsor novice before excellent second in strong renewal of the Manifesto over C&D at this meeting. Returned with a solid second in Ascot Grade 2 but badly let down by jumping in Clarence House there in January. Worth another chance.DateCourseDistGoingTypePosAscot2m 172ySoftChasepu/4Ascot2m 5f 13yGood (Good to Soft in places)Chase2/5Aintree2m 3f 200yGood to Soft (Good in places)Chase2/9Windsor2m 33ySoft (Good to Soft in places)Chase1/4Kempton Park2m 2fGood to Soft (Soft in places)Chasepu/4- 7SolnessJ: J. High-class chaser who landed a third Leopardstown Grade 1 success of his career when edging out Marine Nationale over Christmas. Rare poor effort there next time, however, and best efforts have been when able to dominate over shorter distances.DateCourseDistGoingTypePosLeopardstown2m 1fSoftChase5/6Leopardstown2m 1fYielding (Good to Yielding in places)Chase1/7Punchestown2m 98yGood to Yielding (Yielding in places)Chase3/6Cheltenham1m 7f 199yGood to SoftChase4/8Leopardstown2m 1fYieldingChase1/8- 5L'eau Du SudJ: Tristan DurrellT: Dan Skelton143-133Age 810/110/19/1

Impressive winner of the Grade 2 Shloer at Cheltenham on reappearance but came up short back at this level next 2 starts, though was far from disgraced when third in the Queen Mother Champion Chase last month. Having a rare start beyond 2m and Harry Skelton prefers Grey Dawning.DateCourseDistGoingTypePosCheltenham1m 7f 199yGood to Soft (Good in places)Chase3/10Sandown Park1m 7f 99yGood to Soft (Soft in places)Chase3/5Cheltenham1m 7f 199ySoftChase1/6Aintree1m 7f 176yGoodChase3/5Cheltenham1m 7f 199yGood to SoftChase4/5- 4JPR OneJ: Brendan PowellT: Joe Tizzard5-33214Age 916/112/114/1

Winner of Haldon Gold Cup in 2024 and has worked his way back to that level this season, back on the scoresheet with a ready success in the Scottish Champion Chase (handicap) at Musselburgh. Ran well for a long way when fourth in Ryanair but was firmly put in his place by Heart Wood that day.DateCourseDistGoingTypePosCheltenham2m 4f 127yGood (Good to Soft in places)Chase4/7Musselburgh2m 4f 68yGood to Soft (Soft in places)Chase1/8Cheltenham2m 62yGood to SoftChase2/7Ascot2m 172yGood to SoftChase3/10Exeter2m 1f 109yGoodChase3/6- 6Saint SegalJ: Ciaran GethingsT: Mrs Jane Williams-12122PAge 840/140/133/1

Having an excellent season, winning twice and runner-up 3 times, including in the Game Spirit at Newbury. Pulled up early on final circuit in Queen Mother Champion Chase last time having made bad mistake at first. Bit to find even if bouncing back.DateCourseDistGoingTypePosCheltenham1m 7f 199yGood to Soft (Good in places)Chasepu/10Newbury2m 92yHeavy (Soft in places)Chase2/6Kempton Park2mGoodChase2/7Kelso2m 1f 14ySoftChase1/9Exeter2m 1f 109yGoodChase2/6
