Desertmore House
Runner-up in the La Touche Cup on debut in this sphere last spring, DESERTMORE HOUSE improved on that form under an assertive ride when going one place better at Punchestown in November. His subsequent hurdle run over Christmas is best ignored and he's very much of interest for his very shrewd stable. Last year's winner Stumptown arrives on the back of success in the Velka Pardubicka and is a big threat along with Trials Day scorer Favori de Champdou. Vanillier completes the shortlist.

Now in the veteran stage of his career but never been better, running out the 66/1 winner of 28-runner Paddy Power Chase at Leopardstown over Christmas before following up over this C&D on Trials Day. Raised 8 lb for that but has to be feared for a yard with a fine recent record in this race.DateCourseDistGoingTypePosCheltenham3m 5f 56ySoft (Good to Soft in places)Chase1/16Leopardstown3m 100yYielding (Good to Yielding in places)Chase1/28Cheltenham3m 5f 56yGoodChaseF/14Fairyhouse3m 6fYielding to Soft (Soft in places)Chase5/15Navan3mHeavyChase10/19- 1StumptownJ: Keith DonoghueT: Gavin Patrick Cromwell, Ireland1111P-1Age 911/411/45/2

Very likeable sort and has clearly been transformed by cross-country fences, making it 2-2 over C&D when emerging on top in this race 12 months ago. Added another notable feather to his cap when taking the Velka Pardubicka on latest start in October and should make a bold bid to retain his crown.DateCourseDistGoingTypePosPardubice4m 2f 66yGoodChase1/15Aintree4m 2f 74yGood to SoftChasepu/34Cheltenham3m 5f 56yGood to Soft (Good in places)Chase1/16Cheltenham3m 5f 56ySoft (Good to Soft in places)Chase1/15Punchestown3mYielding to SoftChase1/13- 9Desertmore HouseJ: R. Took well to this discipline when second in La Touche Cup at Punchestown last spring and, following a point success, scored comfortably in 15-runner contest back there in November. Pulled up in a handicap hurdle at Leopardstown over Christmas but will be much more at home back in this environment.DateCourseDistGoingTypePosLeopardstown2m 7f 80yGood to YieldingHurdlepu/18Punchestown3m 90ySoft to Heavy (Heavy in places)Chase1/15Punchestown4m 1f 11yYieldingChase2/12Fairyhouse3m 5f 37ySoft to HeavyChasepu/30Leopardstown3m 19ySoftHurdle16/25- 3Final OrdersJ: C. Has taken well to this discipline, building on his solid Punchestown third when landing Crystal Cup over this C&D in December, jumping boldly and cruising clear. However, he was beaten 16 lengths when fifth to Favori de Champdou back here the following month.DateCourseDistGoingTypePosCheltenham3m 5f 56ySoft (Good to Soft in places)Chase5/16Cheltenham3m 5f 56yGoodChase1/14Punchestown3m 90ySoft to Heavy (Heavy in places)Chase3/15Kilbeggan3m 1f 80yGoodChase6/12Limerick2m 1fGoodFlat10/11- 4VanillierJ: Sean FlanaganT: Gavin Patrick Cromwell, Ireland30-U631Age 1115/27/113/2

Smart chaser at best and did really well under the circumstances when third to stablemate Stumptown in this 12 months ago, having forfeited plenty of ground when almost taking the wrong course at an early stage. Warmed up for a repeat bid with a decisive success at Punchestown last month.DateCourseDistGoingTypePosPunchestown3m 193ySoft to Heavy (Heavy in places)Chase1/10Haydock Park3m 4f 97yGood to Soft (Good in places)Chase3/4Punchestown3m 90ySoft to Heavy (Heavy in places)Chase6/15Punchestown4m 1f 11yYieldingChaseur/12Aintree4m 2f 74yGood to SoftChase14/34- 13The GofferJ: J. Useful chaser who performed with credit when fourth to Stumptown in this race last season. On the back of a win between the flags in October he has finished second in Punchestown cross-country races won by Desertmore House and Vanillier but may again prove vulnerable for win purposes.DateCourseDistGoingTypePosPunchestown3m 193ySoft to Heavy (Heavy in places)Chase2/10Down Royal3mGood to YieldingChase7/16Punchestown3m 90ySoft to Heavy (Heavy in places)Chase2/15Galway2m 6f 111yGoodChase17/20Punchestown4m 1f 11yYieldingChase5/12- 6Pied PiperJ: Sam EwingT: Gordon Elliott, IrelandU32569FAge 818/118/116/1

Smart hurdler whose best effort this season came when fifth in Troytown at Navan in November. Well held both completed starts since, though, including in the valuable Leopardstown handicap won by re-opposing stablemate Favori de Champdou over Christmas. Very smart chaser on his day but best form was at around 2½m and he was well held in 2024 running of the C&D Crystal Cup won by Stumptown on sole previous attempt over these obstacles. Again appeared to run out of petrol going beyond when 3m when fourth to Vanillier at Punchestown last month.DateCourseDistGoingTypePosPunchestown3m 193ySoft to Heavy (Heavy in places)Chase4/10Cheltenham3m 5f 56ySoft (Good to Soft in places)Chase13/15Clonmel2m 4f 171yGood (Good to Yielding in places)Chase4/6Listowel2m 7f 180ySoftChase7/17Leopardstown2m 5f 107yYielding to Soft (Soft in places)Chase10/25- 5ConflatedJ: Danny GilliganT: Gordon Elliott, Ireland708P-43Age 1220/120/122/1

Dual Grade 1-winning chaser in his pomp and (fit from points) he put in a good shift with a first-time tongue strap added when third to Vanillier at Punchestown on return last month. On the downside, his losing run stretches back to December 2022 and he struggled on sole previous run over this C&D.DateCourseDistGoingTypePosPunchestown3m 193ySoft to Heavy (Heavy in places)Chase3/10Punchestown3m 90yYieldingChase4/11Aintree4m 2f 74yGood to SoftChasepu/34Cheltenham2m 4f 127yGood to SoftChase8/20Leopardstown3m 70yYielding (Good to Yielding in places)Chase10/10- 12LatenightpassJ: Miss Gina AndrewsT: Tom EllisU20-779Age 1328/128/133/1

C&D winner in December 2023 and produced a fine effort when runner-up in this race last year. However, followed that with a low-key effort at Aintree (subsequently underwent a breathing operation) and nowhere near his best in 3 runs so far this season.DateCourseDistGoingTypePosCheltenham3m 5f 56ySoft (Good to Soft in places)Chase9/16Cheltenham3m 5f 56yGoodChase7/14Cheltenham3m 3f 71ySoftChase7/10Aintree2m 5f 19yGood to SoftChase22/30Cheltenham3m 5f 56yGood to Soft (Good in places)Chase2/16- 14Famous BridgeJ: Sean QuinlanT: Nicky Richardsd6P-770Age 1033/133/140/1

Talented handicap chaser at his best and posted creditable efforts in the Ultima at this meeting in 2024 and last year. Has shown little in a handful of starts so far this season, though, and hopes now pinned on the switch to this idiosyncratic track sparking a revival. 8 lb out of weights.DateCourseDistGoingTypePosHaydock Park3m 1f 125ySoft (Good to Soft in places)Chase10/12Haydock Park3m 1f 125yGood to Soft (Soft in places)Chase7/10Ayr3m 70ySoftHurdle7/7Ayr3m 7f 176yGood to Soft (Good in places)Chasepu/23Cheltenham3m 1fGood to SoftChase6/24- 10Horantzau D'airyJ: Charlie HammondT: Stuart Edmunds990-28PAge 940/140/133/1

Placed in Kerry and Munster Nationals for Willie Mullins in 2024, and good second in a Uttoxeter handicap chase on final start for Michael Keady last May. However, he ran poorly when last seen at Warwick in September (second run for Sara Bradstock) and he's opposable on debut for another new yard.DateCourseDistGoingTypePosWarwick3m 1f 100yGood (Good to Firm in Places)Chasepu/5Market Rasen2m 5f 89yGoodChase8/15Uttoxeter2m 4fGood (Good to Soft in places)Chase2/8Aintree4m 2f 74yGood to SoftChase13/34Leopardstown2m 5f 107yYieldingChase9/16- 8Velvet ElvisJ: Gavin SheehanT: John McConnell, Ireland028-P7PAge 1050/133/140/1
