We are truly blessed in the United Kingdom and Ireland. Not only do we have some of the most wonderfully maintained racecourses in the world, but we also have some of best racing Festivals too.

Not to be outdone by their Flat counterparts, National Hunt racing also has its own excellent portfolio of top class Festivals which are well attended every year.

Best National Hunt Meetings:

  1. Cheltenham Festival
  2. Grand National
  3. Welsh Grand National
  4. Dublin Racing Festival
  5. Irish Grand National
  6. Punchestown Festival
  7. Scottish Grand National
  8. Kempton Christmas Festival
  9. Galway Festival
  10. Ladbrokes Trophy

The attire is very different to somewhere like Royal Ascot but the equine action is just as exhilarating.

Whereas many summer Festivals tend to be as much about the social scene than the actual racing, National Hunt’s winter/spring Festivals are pretty much where you will find your “hardcore racing fans”.

Bet Calculator

Here are the Top 10 National Hunt meetings:

10) Ladbrokes Trophy

Also known as Newbury’s “Winter Carnival” the day itself is all geared around the top staying chase – the Ladbrokes Trophy.

The race is one of the most historical in the country and has been won by many greats in recent years such as Denman, Many Clouds and Native River.

Worth an impressive £350,000, this is generally a contest where legends are made.

9) Galway Festival

The seven-day Galway Festival is as much a test of the liver and the wallet as it is the racing for many participants.

Known locally as “race week”, the Festival traditionally draws hundreds of thousands of people from all over Ireland and beyond.

Held in the last week of July, Galway Racecourse hosts a mixture of both National Hunt and Flat races over the course of the meeting, with the historic €200,000 Galway Plate being the main highlight.

8) Kempton Christmas Festival

The King George VI Chase is one of the most iconic races in the Jumps calendar and the Boxing Day fixture itself often out-trumps Christmas Day in terms of excitement.

Online betting turnover on the outcome of the race is particularly high during the month of December.

Run over a flat three miles at Kempton Park, the King George and has an illustrious roll of honour including the likes of Desert Orchid and Kauto Star.

Boasting 12 top quality races over two days, Kempton’s Christmas Festival meeting is the undoubtedly the crown jewel in the track’s entire season.

7) Scottish Grand National

The two-day Scottish Grand National meeting is Scotland's richest jumps meeting, with the Saturday highlight being the Scottish National.

Ayr welcomes crowds of around 20,000 for some of the most hotly contested jumps action north of the border.

The Scottish National has the fourth biggest betting turnover of any race in the UK and is the second richest jumps race run on a Saturday.

6) Punchestown Festival

The Irish like nothing more than an extended Festival and this Punchestown one comes in at a mere five days of competitive National Hunt fayre.

The meeting itself is the pinnacle of the Irish National Hunt season and their end of year Championships, when the Champion Trainer, Owner and Jockey's titles are all bestowed upon their worthy recipients.

The Punchestown Gold Cup is one of the most important chase races of the season in Ireland and quite often you will witness UK trainers making the journey over to compete.

5) Irish Grand National

Fairyhouse Racecourse, in the village of Ratoath, County Meath, is the place to be every April for their three-day Easter Festival.

The first day – Saturday, includes the €100,000 RYBO Handicap Hurdle.

Sunday brings us the valuable Fairyhouse Gold Cup, while Monday (Ladies Day) is the biggest draw of the lot - the €500,000 Boyle Sports Irish Grand National, Ireland's most valuable Jumps race.

4) Dublin Racing Festival

The Dublin Racing Festival is the newest kid on the block, having only been conceived out of an idea in 2018, but it has rapidly risen to prominence in a short space of time.

Comprising of seven Grade One, three Grade Two races, along with some new and existing valuable handicaps, the Leopardstown based Festival is an important barometer towards the Irish’s chances at the forthcoming Cheltenham Festival.

In just its first year, the Leopardstown extravaganza produced no fewer than eight subsequent Cheltenham winners - so here is the place to find out the best National Hunt horses to follow ahead of the Festival.

3) Welsh Grand National

Run over the Christmas holiday period, this 3m5f handicap chase is often one of the most exciting Jumps races of the season.

The Welsh National fixture is Chepstow’s most valuable race day and some of the most popular staying chasers in training return year after year.

Well known winners have included Stearsby, Run and Skip and Burrough Hill Lad, who went on to complete the ultimate double by landing the Cheltenham Gold Cup less than three months later.

In 2019 Potters Corner became the first Welsh-trained horse since 1973 to take the title.

2) Grand National

The greatest steeplechase in the world, attracting over nine million TV viewers and a race where many people choose to bet on the horse racing betting as a special annual treat, when generally they wouldn’t do so.

Over 150,000 visitors descend on the course over the three-day fixture to see horses tackling the famous Grand National fences.

Thursday at the Aintree Grand National Festival is Liverpool’s Day - a tribute to the city itself and the people who live there. Friday is Ladies Day and of course the Grand National hors d’oeuvre – the Topham Steeple Chase.

Saturday of course brings us the ultimate challenge in Jumps racing – the Grand National.

1) Cheltenham Festival

The home of The Gold Cup with four days of atmosphere, anticipation and action, all played out in the beautiful natural amphitheatre of Prestbury Park.

The Cheltenham Festival hosts a total of 28 races across those four days, with prize money totalling over £4.5million. Some 265,000 racegoers go through the turnstiles to watch the finest participants in National Hunt compete for the highest honours.

Features each day include the Champion Hurdle, the Queen Mother Champion Chase, the Stayers’ Hurdle, culminating on the Friday with the big one - The Gold Cup.

You probably think you know everything there is to know about your favorite athletes. You know when they started playing, who their idols were, and how many times they won tournaments.

But we’re pretty sure there are still a few things you don’t know about the world’s most famous athletes. Like what? We’re glad you asked.

    Michael Jordan

Fans know just about everything concerning the on-court performance of the NBA’s greatest ever player. But there’s more to MJ than rebounds and three-pointers.

The winner of six NBA championships with the Chicago Bulls, Jordan has a bachelor’s degree in geography from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Jordan retired from basketball after the 1993-4 season to give baseball a try, earning himself a place in the minor leagues until he returned to the Bulls in March 1995.

The owner of the Bulls, Jerry Reinsdorf, continued to pay him his reported salary of $4 million during his brief baseball career.

    LeBron James

NBA superstar LeBron James has a deep passion for football. He played two seasons of football for his high school and earned recognition as an all-state receiver.

Notre Dame recruited him as a wide receiver. As a junior, he led the team to the state semifinals, finishing the season with 16 touchdown receptions.

    Bet Calculator

He made 57 receptions for 1,670 yards that season. James switched to basketball his senior year. It wasn’t because he preferred the game, but because a broken wrist prevented him from playing football.

    Kevin Garnett

Did you know that Celtics forward Kevin Garnett celebrated Christmas for the first time at the age of 19?

If you thought Garnett simply wasn’t a fan of holidays, you thought wrong. His mother was a Jehovah’s Witness and she didn’t allow religious holidays or celebrations in her house.

Halloween was prohibited, too. Garnett didn’t enjoy his first Christmas celebration until he started his career in the NBA.

    Kurt Warner

How would you like to have a nice restaurant meal - and have legendary NFL quarterback Kurt Warner pay for it?

Hundreds of people have had that experience, but few know it. When Warner goes out for dinner with his family, he quietly instructs the restaurant staff to give him the checks for diners seated near him.

The NFL legend has bought meals for hundreds of strangers because they happened to be seated near him and his family.

    Peyton Manning

You might think there is not much left unsaid about one of the most popular and successful quarterbacks in the history of American football.

Manning won two Super Bowls and several MVP trophies, and he started his own charitable foundation as soon as he secured a place in the NFL. For football fans, there will only ever be one Peyton Manning.

Facebook seems to think the same. A teenager named Peyton Manning, coincidentally from Denver where the NFL’s Manning capped off his career with a 2015 Super Bowl win, couldn’t get a Facebook account using his real name.

    Usain Bolt

Jamaican Olympian Usain Bolt is probably the greatest sprinter the world has ever seen. He is known for his records in 100 metre and 200 metre races.

He is the only runner to have won Olympic gold three times in a row - in 2008, 2012, and 2016.

He has held the world championship 11 times. Of the 30 fastest 100-metre sprints in history, only nine did not involve doping. Usain Bolt ran all nine of them.

    Diego Maradona

Unlike Usain Bolt, Diego Maradona had no problem with using drugs. In fact, the legendary soccer player failed numerous high-profile drug tests.

In 1991, Maradona tested positive for cocaine in Italy. Three years later, during the World Cup, Maradona tested positive again. This was the last time when he failed a doping test, but not because he stopped using drugs.

From then on, whenever he was tested, he used a plastic extension to fill the sample container with drug-free urine.

    Paul Pierce

In September 2000, basketball player Paul Pierce was stabbed 11 times in the back, neck, and face.

The injuries were horrible, and no one expected the player would be ready to wear a Celtic uniform the next season.

Pierce not only didn’t miss a single game match during the 2000-2001 season, but he had excellent performance. He averaged 25 points per game over the season.

    Dennis Rodman

Rodman’s eccentric personality is obviously hard to resist. The former NBA player is one of the rare US citizens who are always welcome in North Korea.

The unpredictable North Korean leader, Kim Jong-un, invited Rodman to visit him for the first time in 2013 and they have visited several times since.

But Kim is not the only world leader who likes Rodman. American President Donald Trump has been a friend of the basketball star since they met on the set of Trump’s Celebrity Apprentice television program.

    Allen Iverson

It seems like NBA athletes provide more than their share of fun facts compared to football and baseball players. Al Iverson played in the NBA 15 seasons as shooting guard and point guard.

In 2001 alone he was league MVP, an NBA All-Star, MVP of the NBA All-Star Game, a member of the All-NBA First Team, the NBA scoring champion, and the NBA steals leader.

He was selected for the NBA All-Star Game 11 times and he ranks sixth in all-time points per game. Surprisingly, Iverson hated practicing.

After his retirement, he told an interview he didn’t work out with weights during his career because “that s*** was too heavy."

Modern sport and social media go hand-in-hand. Everyone wants to be the best in the sport, just like everyone wants to be the most popular player on social media.

If tennis betting is your thing, you will already be familiar with the names on this list. Some of the greatest players ever to pick up a racquet make the cut…

    Most Followed Tennis Players:

    1. Rafael Nadal – 39.3 million
    2. Roger Federer – 35.6 million
    3. Sania Mirza – 30.9 million
    4. Serena Williams – 28.8 million
    5. Maria Sharapova – 26.6 million
    6. Novak Djokovic – 23.2 million
    7. Andy Murray – 8.7 million
    8. Ana Ivanovic – 7.4 million
    9. Juan Martin del Potro – 7.2 million
    10. Caroline Wozniacki – 5.9 million

The new kids on the block are playing catch up. Established tennis stars have been gaining followers for years while tennis’ youngsters are just breaking onto the scene.

Without further ado, it is time to take a look at the 10 most popular tennis players on social media. Caroline Wozniacki is first up on our tennis social media followers countdown…

    10 – Caroline Wozniacki

Now retired, Wozniacki was one of the players of her generation. When she announced her decision in early 2020, the Danish star had 30 WTA singles titles and a Grand Slam title.

Wozniacki just about sneaks into this most followed tennis players list, with a total fan base of 5.9 social media followers across Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

9 – Juan Martin del Potro

The 2009 US Open champion has won 22 ATP singles titles throughout his illustrious career – an impressive feat in one of the toughest eras in male tennis history.

Del Potro’s 3.3 million Twitter followers earn him a place in our rankings. One of the most consistent players around, he sits ninth in the list of the biggest tennis stars on social media.

    8 – Ana Ivanovic

Serbia’s greatest ever female tennis player, Ivanovic won 14 WTA Singles titles throughout her career. In addition, she was crowned French Open champion in 2008 after beating Dinara Safina at Roland Garros.

Particularly popular on Facebook, Ivanovic is active on all forms of social media and her place as one of the 10 most followed tennis players on social media is secure.

    7 – Andy Murray

The most successful British tennis player of all-time, Murray has enjoyed incredible success at the highest level – though his career has been plagued by injury in recent times.

Now with 8.7 million social media followers, Murray isn’t the most active tennis player on Instagram or Twitter but fans are still keen to know the latest updates ahead of major tennis tournaments.

    6 – Novak Djokovic

Djokovic sits third on the most men’s Grand Slam titles list with 17 – two behind Nadal and three behind Federer. In terms of social media followers, he also ranks behind his closest rivals.

However, Djokovic’s 23.2 million social media followers puts him some way clear of Murray. He has a relatively even spread of tennis fans across Instagram, Facebook and Twitter.

    5 – Maria Sharapova

One place and 3.4 million social followers ahead of Djokovic, Sharapova is a renowned figure in women’s tennis. Now retired, she ended her career with a total of five Grand Slam titles.

With a grand total of 26.6 social media followers, including 14 million tennis fans on Facebook, the Russian remains a popular icon in the sport despite off-field controversies.

    4 – Serena Williams

The most successful female player in the Open Era, Serena Williams is one title away from equalling Margaret Court’s Grand Slam wins record. Without a doubt, she is one of the best ever tennis players.

Approaching 29 million followers mark across Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, Williams is one of the top tennis stars on social media and the American could climb into the top three.

    3 – Sania Mirza

888sport India tennis fans will know all about Sania Mirza. While she is yet to win a Grand Slam singles title, she is a four-time Grand Slam doubles champion.

Widely regarded as the best Indian female tennis player, Mirza’s fan base is huge on social media. With over 30 million followers, she is well worth her place in these tennis rankings.

    2 – Roger Federer

Quite possibly the best tennis player of all-time, Federer is a fan favourite. He leads the way in Grand Slam titles (20) and was the highest earning athlete in 2020.

However, he has to settle for second spot in our tennis followers chart. With a total of 35.6 million followers, he is clear of third but has some way to go to knock Nadal off top spot.

    1 – Rafael Nadal

The most famous tennis player on the planet, Nadal has clinched 19 Grand Slam titles during his illustrious career. The Spaniard is a true legend of the sport – and long may his success continue.

Now topping the 39 million social media followers mark, Nadal ranks as the most followed tennis player on social media. His figures on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram are something to behold.

Most of these horses ran at the 2020 meeting but some are relatively unknown quantities in the horse racing betting world.

Without further ado, let’s get stuck into our list of the top Cheltenham Festival horses to follow as we enter the 2020/21 National Hunt season.

    Aione – National Hunt Chase

Aione won’t be near the top of the Cheltenham Festival betting for any race but he could come into his own over longer distances in the 20/21 jumps season.

He ran a solid race in the Albert Bartlett at the 2020 Festival but looks like a chaser and he could be the stable’s horse for the National Hunt Chase. 888betting odds have him at 20/1 to win that particular race.

The Willie Mullins entries for Cheltenham are always difficult to predict but Aione is likely to be kept apart from Monkfish, who also races in the famous Ricci silks.

One thing I will say: Patrick Mullins, Jamie Codd and Derek O’Connor have an excellent record in this race so it pays to back one of the top amateur jockeys.

    Allaho – Ryanair Chase

This isn’t a Willie Mullins stable tour, don’t worry. However, Allaho (10/1) ticks plenty of boxes to go close in the Ryanair Chase at the 2021 Cheltenham Festival.

He ran an excellent race in the RSA Chase but was outstayed by the fast-finishing Champ and Minella Indo. Still unexposed over fences, Allaho has scope for further improvement.

While the Ryanair Chase may not be as glamorous as the Queen Mother Champion Chase or as prestigious as the Gold Cup, this race could be there for the taking.

While I tipped Simply The Betts for this race back in March, Allaho looks tailor-made for it and he may thrive dropping down in trip.

Appreciate It – Albert Bartlett Novices’ Hurdle

Runner up in the 2020 Champion Bumper, Appreciate It looks like he will relish going up in trip this year and Patrick Mullins backs up that view.

He got caught for speed against stablemate Ferny Hollow at the 2020 Cheltenham Festival and he could be a real star of the novice hurdling division.

While some would argue that the Ballymore Novices’ Hurdle is the logical step, Appreciate It won a point-to-point over three miles on soft ground. Stamina won’t be a problem.

Punters looking for the best Willie Mullins horses to follow for Cheltenham will have this lad at the very top of their antepost betting lists and he is a general 16/1 shot for the Albert Bartlett.

Bob Olinger – Ballymore Novices’ Hurdle

Bob Olinger caught the eye in his debut win at Gowran Park, thriving in the heavy conditions to trounce his rivals by 10 lengths.

He beat an odds on Gordon Elliott runner on that day and Bob Olinger should be considered as a serious prospect for the Ballymore Novices’ Hurdle if he taking to hurdling.

Henry de Bromhead was full of praise for his horse following that run and the consensus is that Bob Olinger could be an exceptional horse.

Set to be one of the most competitive races at the Festival, Bob Olinger is a 25/1 chance to win the Ballymore. If he takes to jumping, he could take some stopping.

    Champ – Cheltenham Gold Cup

Named after one of the best horse racing jockeys of all-time in AP McCoy, Champ has the capacity to go to the very top of the sport – the Gold Cup is the aim.

His jumping was sketchy at times as a novice but he has a hunger and desire to succeed. In terms of attitude, he is as professional as they come.

If you are looking for Nicky Henderson horses to follow, Champ will be high up on the list and he looks well priced at 12/1 to win the Cheltenham Gold Cup.

He will need to jump better to take control of the staying chasing division but Champ has more pros than many of his rivals.

Chantry House – Marsh Novices’ Chase

A raw talent with massive potential, Chantry House could blossom into a household name in the coming months. He ticks all the right boxes to star at the biggest jumps meetings.

Chantry House finished 11 lengths behind Shishkin in this year’s Supreme Novices’ Hurdle but he looks set to appreciate a fence and a step up in trip.

A popular name in Nicky Henderson stable tour updates, Chantry House (16/1) looks destined to take his chance in the Marsh Novices’ Chase next year.

On the face of it, he looks a chaser all over and he could be one of the top JP McManus horses to follow at the Cheltenham Festival in 2021.

    Fury Road – Stayers’ Hurdle

According to Gordon Elliott stable tour news, Fury Road is set to stay over hurdles and that makes him one of the 20/21 jumps horses to follow for the Stayers’ Hurdle.

The division is relatively weak, with Paisley Park falling to 50/1 shot Lisnagar Oscar at the 2020 Cheltenham Festival.

Fury Road was one of four horses involved in the sensational finish in the Albert Bartlett Novices’ Hurdle but most expected Elliott to school him over fences this year.

With his form as a staying hurdler looking particularly hot, Fury Road can be one of the top contenders in the division and 20/1 in Cheltenham antepost odds looks like a price.

Gypsy Island – Mares Novices’ Hurdle

I was very sweet on Gypsy Island for the 2020 Mares Novices’ Hurdle but an injury sustained in training forced her to miss this year’s Cheltenham Festival.

However, she can make up for lost time with victory in that race in 2021 – and it would take a brave man to back against the Peter Fahey mare at 8/1.

Unbeaten in bumpers, Gypsy Island has just one blemish on her record. She finished second on hurdles debut to 2020 Arkle Challenge Trophy winner Put The Kettle On.

That form now looks particularly strong entering the new season and that is why she is one of our top National Hunt horses to follow in 2021.

    Keskonrisk – Supreme Novices’ Hurdle

Winner of a Fairyhouse bumper on New Year’s Day, Keskonrisk raised a few eyebrows when he was sold for £370,000 at the Goffs UK January sale.

Keskonrisk will now be trained by Joseph O’Brien and he can come on leaps and bounds this year, having made light work of his bumper.

On that day, he finished four lengths clear of a Gordon Elliott horse with form behind Eric Bloodaxe and 2020 Champion Bumper winner Ferny Hollow.

While Flinteur Sacre was my early Cheltenham antepost tip just days after the 2020 Festival, Keskonrisk is well worth a punt to go well in the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle at 50/1.

The Big Breakaway – RSA Novices’ Chase

Bought to be a chaser, The Big Breakaway’s form over hurdles was always going to be a bonus and he finished an excellent fourth behind Envoi Allen in the Ballymore.

Colin Tizzard holds him in high regard and it wouldn’t be a huge surprise to see The Big Breakaway rocket to the top of the staying novice chaser division.

He looks like he will thrive over a fence and he is still widely available at a very appealing 25/1 to win the RSA Novices’ Chase at Cheltenham.

If he makes an impressive debut over fences, that price could crash and The Big Breakaway could be one of the top jumps horses in 2021.

The Champions League was wrapped up in extraordinary circumstances in Lisbon in 2020.

The 2020/21 Champions League will be unusual again, with away fans unable to travel around the continent. It comes in the most congested of seasons, challenging the depth of Europe’s best squads more than ever.

Midweek matches are the rule rather than the exception for the top sides this season.

Fatigue is a very real factor in Champions League betting, squad rotation will be every bit as important as matchday tactics, and the ever-present risk of injury is heightened.

The early knockings of the Premier League season have seen upsets galore. The supposed favourites have been toppled often, and not only losing, they have been embarrassed at times.

Could we see similar in Europe’s premier competition? Could an underdog make a deep run? These three teams could all be in the mix in our 20/21 Champions League predictions.

    Marseille

Drawn with Manchester City, Porto and Olympiacos, Marseille landed in a pretty favourable group. It could have been much more challenging given their position in pot four.

Les Olympiens finished second in a truncated 2019/20 Ligue 1 season, 12 points off the pace set by PSG but six clear of their nearest rivals, Rennes.

They were comfortably the second-best team in the country, earning them their first Champions League group stage appearance since 2013/14.

Already an exciting squad with young talent and experience in equal measure, Marseille added Luis Henrique, Pape Gueye, Alvaro Gonzalez and Yuto Nagatomo on permanent deals this offseason.

Michael Cuisance also arrived on loan from Bayern Munich after his move to Leeds fell through.

Their chances of getting out of the group depend largely on the performances of wing duo Dimitri Payet and Florian Thauvin. Thauvin has started this season in fine form after sitting out almost all of 2019/20 through injury.

Payet remains one of the best creative forces in Europe – he averaged four key passes per game last season, by far the best mark in Ligue 1.

Looking to bet on football? Marseille are currently 11/1 to win their group and 13/10 to progress.

    Sevilla

Sevilla claimed a sixth Europa League crown earlier this year, earning a spot in pot one for the Champions League draw.

They are matched up with Chelsea, Rennes and Krasnodar. It’s certainly a winnable group for the six-time UEFA Cup/Europa League winners.

The team from south Andalusia made the quarters in their last Champions League appearance three seasons ago. That was their deepest European Cup run since 1957/58.

Where they have made the Europa League their own, becoming the competition’s most successful team, Sevilla have not been able to take the step up towards Champions League contention.
On the back of a strong 2019/20, they are well-positioned to go deep in 2020/21. It was a busy window, with Ever Banega and Simon Kjaer departing.

Suso’s loan move was made permanent, Karim Rekik arrived from Hertha Berlin, Oussama Idrissi provides another attacking option. Ivan Rakitic brings experience, and Marcos Acuna should fill the Sergio Reguilon void at left-back.

Chelsea are a bit of a question mark this year. Expectations are high, but Frank Lampard’s side are still vulnerable on the break – Sevilla have a solid defence and can snatch a goal.

Getting out of the group is an expectation for Julen Lopetegui’s side, and it’s not unreasonable to claim they could win it.

Having seen off Manchester United in the last 16 last season, Sevilla should be confident in the knockout rounds. They can frustrate more talented opponents and have sufficient firepower to steal results against the run of play.

    Borussia Monchengladbach

Retaining the core of the squad that briefly made them Bundesliga title challengers last season secured a successful transfer window for Borussia Monchengladbach.

Marco Rose kept hold of Marcus Thuram, Alassane Plea, Denis Zakaria and Florian Neuhaus, and he’ll need all of them fully fit and in top form for their Champions League campaign.

Gladbach got what looks like this year’s group of death. Real Madrid, Shakhtar Donetsk and Inter are their opponents, leaving Gladbach out at 9/4 to progress.

No one should write off this Gladbach side, despite the quality of the opposition. Antonio Conte’s record in Europe is unspectacular, and the former Chelsea manager could prioritise a Scudetto pursuit in a packed schedule.

Shakhtar Donetsk are tricky, but they didn’t make it out of their group last season and were humiliated by Inter in the semi-finals of the Europa League.

The pace Gladbach have in attack makes them a dangerous opponent. They were third in the Bundesliga in expected goals last season, just behind Leipzig and far ahead of Dortmund.

With solid midfield options, they are well-equipped to absorb pressure and unleash on the break. Don’t write Gladbach off. If they make it out the group, their counter-attacking football is perfect for the knockout rounds.

Leeds United are still hoping to land another midfielder before the Premier League transfer window slams shut at 11pm on Monday October 5th.

While Raphinha was the focus of much of Leeds United transfer news over the last couple days, Phil Hay has reported of Leeds’ desire to bring in a midfielder too.

Rodrigo De Paul had been the focal point of Leeds rumours for weeks, but Leeds are going to look elsewhere if they want to land an advanced midfielder to link play between the deep-lying central midfielders and their striker.

The Telegraph reported of interest in Atalanta midfielder Ruslan Malinovskyi, but Phil Hay has refuted such claims.

Hay, tweeting from his personal account, said, “Malinovskyi is someone they've had on the radar for the past couple of weeks. But like De Paul, it's never got to an advanced stage. Not expecting them to do Campana."

Levante midfielder Jose Campana, mentioned by Hay, clearly isn’t following Raphinha to Elland Road on Monday. Leeds have swung big in their search for another central player, but are yet to have any success.

There’s still time to strike a deal if Marcelo Bielsa identifies a player they should make a late push for.

    Not Much Business Expected

Leeds Live journalist Beren Cross took part in a question and answer session on Monday. He indicated Leeds are probably done for the window once the signing of Raphinha is wrapped up.

Cross said, “We’re told it will just be one through the door at Elland Road today barring any late progress with other targets.”

That seems to rule out a midfield signing, which leaves the Whites a bit thin in that department should Kalvin Phillips or Mateusz Klich suffer an injury.

However, Cross did suggest Leeds could recruit a midfield player from the Championship over the next few days.

“There are another 11 days to do business with EFL clubs, so would not role out an eight or a 10 coming in from the Championship if they’re good enough."

This opens up the possibility of a swoop for Norwich midfielder Todd Cantwell, who has been linked with a move to Elland Road over the last week or so. Said Benrahma could be an option too, though the Brentford star will not come cheaply.

    Liverpool Left-Back Targeted

Leeds, per the Mirror, are looking to bring Liverpool left-back Yasser Larouci in on loan.

It is reported that Jurgen Klopp wants the youngster to go out and get some gametime as he is behind Andrew Robertson and Kostas Tsimikas in the Liverpool pecking order.

Several other teams are keen on Larouci, but Leeds could have an advantage as Liverpool would like him to remain in England. Others have thrived on loan at Elland Road, which could tempt Liverpool to send Larouci to work with Bielsa.
