By his own admission David Bentley ‘blew hot and cold’ during a career that saw him capped seven times for England and run out 184 times in the Premier League.

When he was hot the Peterborough-born playmaker had the rare ability to conjure up goals that stay long in the memory, including a spectacular 43-yard volley in the North London Derby. He was brilliant on his day.

When he was cold it was often a result of disillusionment, either at a manager or sometimes a sport that had little time for individuality.

"You can’t be robotic and calculated,” he says now about a strong sense of conviction that led to him retiring aged just 29. “That’s the best thing about me and the worst.”

Here, the much-travelled maverick revisits his former clubs, offering his thoughts on their present circumstance as well as dipping his toe in the past. We begin at the Emirates and a side struggling to embrace the future.

Misfiring Gunners

Bentley shot through the ranks at Arsenal, quickly gaining a reputation as England’s next-big-thing.

Despite being dubbed ‘the new Beckham’ however his opportunities were extremely limited, which perhaps shouldn’t surprise in an era that saw Arsene Wenger’s men crowned as ‘Invincibles’. Bergkamp, Ljungberg and the like are hard to budge.

Fast-forward to the here and now and youth is once again on the agenda, only this time there are a number of highly promising kids all staking a strong claim for a starting spot.

Bentley has been so impressed by Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli and Joe Willock that he believes Mikel Arteta’s new-look team should have the teens placed front and centre.

“Youth development has always been Arsenal’s strong point. It was when I was there. The systems are there in place along with the type of football they want to generate and there will be lots of opportunities for them.

"If they can just get the foundations in place so they have the right experienced players to help them then Arteta’s model will be to allow young players to develop. As long as he is given time his style of football is good for that.”

There is a hitch though to this plan and it takes the form of established, under-achieving players clearly not making way anytime soon.

Gooners and rival fans alike were shocked this week to discover that the accident-prone David Luiz has been awarded a contract extension and watching on as a fan Bentley reacted as we all did.

“I was surprised at the new contract. I don’t know if it’s because of a lack of preparation in getting players in but the recruitment with the back four is a problem. It always has been.

"David Luiz is problematic. He’s a great technical player but if you want to bring the youth through and create a winning mentality is he really the type to help with that?”

“You look at Liverpool – and Manchester United are trying to do it too – and they build a solid foundation that allows the players to express themselves.

"If you have solid back-four and solid spine of the team it’s easier for the young players to step into that. Instead Arsenal leak goals and look vulnerable.”

It is a situation brought about by financial restraints that has left Arsenal looking to their big names to pull them through only to be let down time and again. It’s a situation that has the Gunners languishing in mid-table.

“Mesut Ozil and David Luiz are on large money and if Arsenal can move these players on then Arteta will be able to spend money on transfers.

"I don’t know what the thinking is at boardroom level because Arsenal need to ship out half the team and get a good core in. That’s difficult but can be done.

"The major problem is that we don’t know if they’re singing from the same hymn sheet at boardroom level."

Spurs Abandon Their Style

Only a very select few have played for both North London giants and Bentley is among them.

In 2008, after excelling for several seasons for Blackburn Rovers, the midfielder ignored the advances of Manchester United and joined Harry Redknapp’s revolution at Spurs, sold on a ‘project that never materialised’.

There, he played alongside Gareth Bale, a player ‘who could do anything’, and Modric also, and much like the Pochettino period that followed, Tottenham were a joy to behold, turning on the style whenever the mood took hold. They just forgot to win silverware each time, that’s all.

Enter the serial winner Jose Mourinho whose determination to install some substance into the team seems to have come at the cost of the style Spurs supporters hold so dear. For Bentley it’s a sacrifice that doesn’t make much sense.

“Tottenham and especially the fans – and I know hundreds of them – are used to entertaining football. They want their players to express themselves and they want that kind of football.

"They have been spoilt with that kind of football and through Redknapp and Poch they have enjoyed a successful period and seen some good football under both managers.

"A lot of it has been front-foot football, pressing from the front whereas Mourinho’s teams sit deeper and it’s a different way of playing. I can see why that frustrates because playing deeper is a bit boring.

"This is the method he sets his teams up and they sit in banks and spring from that and I don’t think it suits the players like Son and Lamela.”

With Tottenham’s main men struggling to adapt to the Special One’s rigid demands it has left them adrift in the league, with a top four place now looking impossible.

Might this mean Harry Kane and co could be looking to move on in the next window?

“When you have Daniel Levy in charge people won’t leave unless it’s financially correct for the football club.

"We will have to see how badly the club miss out on gate revenue because that’s what the stadium was built for and Champions League football is where the players want to be. But nobody will leave unless there is an extraordinary offer that’s for sure.”

If the 35-year-old is right – and record-breaking sales in the past suggests that he is – that surely means Dele Alli will be staying at the Lane for a while yet.

For Spurs fans this would be great news but a substantial downturn in form in recent times remains a serious concern.

Like Bentley, the England international is a creative midfielder capable of the sublime. Like Bentley, he can frustrate as much as he can excite. His thoughts on Alli’s journey therefore is very much worth noting.

“Alli has proven what he can be. He’s a great player with lots of ability. But he’s had a dip. Maybe his personal life is a bit different and he’s lost a bit of focus or something but as soon as he has that back he will come good again.

"There have been a couple of injuries but he’s still at a young age. I think most players have that during a career – you have to recharge again.

"Hopefully this has just been a recharging twelve months and he goes again because it’s a niche thing that he has. Not many can do what he does.”

Rovers Return

It was at Ewood Park where Bentley established himself as a genuine talent, winning the club’s Player of the Year award in 2007 and breaking onto the international scene in the process.

Under Mark Hughes he was urged to show what he could do and take chances and it is this freedom to create that he feels is severely lacking in the English psychological make-up. As his views on the present England set-up demonstrate.

“I wish England had a Bruno Fernandes but as a society we don’t like that sort of player: we don’t encourage it. It goes all the way back to Gazza. We need creative players and to give them that responsibility.

"We need players who can do what they want but the English way is to question that: what are you doing that for? You’re not better than us.”

With this in mind, it hardly surprises to learn that one of Bentley’s favourite team-mates from a decade at the highest level was a Turkish maestro who strolled instead of ran and picked passes out for fun.

“Tugay was brilliant. He was just smoking his cigar all the time, literally. He had that old-school, European relaxed attitude that meant he could just turn up and turn it on.

"He never lost the ball and had such awareness. Could spray the ball anywhere, technical with both feet and scored some great goals.

"Tugay was brilliant and he would have made any team tick. He was probably under-rated. He was married to a basketball player. She was something like six foot eight and he was only five foot six!”

Now a successful businessman with a string of bars and restaurants, Bentley has scant time for looking back on his footballing fortunes. When he does though it’s often to Blackburn where he’ll reminisce: a career zenith.

It saddens him then to see Rovers in the Championship but he takes heart in their recent good form that has put them on the periphery of the play-offs.

“Generally a team that finishes sixth does well. Blackburn is a great football club and the area has good solid people. I loved it there so I hope they do gather momentum and go up.”

Happy Days At Norwich

Bentley made just the one league start under Wenger before being loaned to Norwich City for a season that ultimately ended in relegation even if the player himself impressed.

For the youngster it was a steep learning curve and for that he will always be grateful to the East Anglian outfit.

“I remember the first game I played. Phew, the pace of Premier League was very different to what I was used to so they helped me a lot.

"I owe a lot to Norwich and I enjoyed my time there. They’re a great football club and they give you a chance.

"Malky Mackay and Paul McVeigh were the big characters. Then there was Phil Mulryne who is training to be the Pope now in the Vatican. You wouldn’t have believed that if you played with him, with his red Ferrari!

"We had a good team spirit there with Darren Huckerby and Gary Doherty, the Ginger Pele. Every day was good old-fashioned banter and the whole club is built on a family friendly feel. I loved it there.”

Cycling isn’t the most popular sport around but it certainly attracts a reasonable amount of attention during the summer months, particularly ahead of the Olympic Games. With plenty of cycling action throughout the Games, it is well worth following the latest cycling odds.

However, the biggest cycling event is undoubtedly the Tour De France. Held annually, the famous multiple stage race traditionally kicks off at the beginning of July with 21 races over a 23-day period. Cycling betting tips and odds will chop and change daily!

Some of the greatest cyclists of all-time have been victorious in the Tour De France – an event that is widely regarded as one of the most testing in sport. It is the World Cup of cycling and millions of viewers will follow the Tour De France throughout the event.

Cycling Betting Guide

With a number of growing cycling betting markets, punters can find the latest cycling odds and tips on upcoming events.

It is worth following cycling news and trends before placing a bet on major competitions, particularly to monitor injury and team news.

Bet Calculator

So if you’re thinking of betting on cycling, you are in the right place. Here at 888sport, we have produced this informative cycling betting tips guide for punters – which will hopefully be useful for the cycling novice as well as the Tour de France expert!

Cycling Betting Tips

The most important piece of advice for betting on cycling is to keep up with current cycling trends. It is undoubtedly one of the most physically demanding sports and the landscape of the sport can change in a matter of months.

Some events place emphasis on speed, others require great stamina. Research thoroughly into the different types of race – whether it is an individual pursuit, the keirin or even the Tour de France, the style of race will change drastically and certain riders will suit certain events.

There are two main forms of cycling: track cycling and road cycling. Track events take place in a velodrome while road cycling is outdoors – the former includes individual competitions while the latter tends to revolve around cycling as a team.

In team cycling betting events, the role of the breakaway is very important. More often than not, at least one rider will attempt to pull away and live cycling odds can shift drastically if an early move is made. It is worth noting thought these moves very rarely pay off.

A rider’s schedule is also crucial when betting on cycling. Due to the high physical demands of the sport, punters may be tempted to consider a rider in the cycling betting tips that has given themselves a period of time to recover before a major event.

In the Olympic Games, the events come thick and fast – and only the elite will be able to succeed in multiple disciplines. Recovery time is minimal at the Olympics so that is another factor to take into consideration when pondering a cycling each-way bet.

Free Cycling Tips

Cycling certainly qualifies as a niche sport so plenty of punters will be looking for the best cycling betting tips ahead of major events.

There are plenty of free cycling betting tips on offer to punters – with some of the best tipsters in cycling covering every competition.

As is the case with many cycling events, some competitions have multiple stages and some riders will fare better early on at an event than later on in proceedings.

Consider all betting options; not just for an outright winner but handicap betting against the field and the speed of a particular race are two interesting cycling betting tips.

One of our biggest cycling betting tips is to consider free cycling betting tips over a paid tips subscription.

While paying for cycling tips can pay dividends in the long term, only the very best tipsters should be considered and punters should do their research before signing up for paid sports betting tips.

Tour de France Tips

First held in 1903, the Tour de France is widely regarded as the most difficult bicycle race on the planet.

The planned route changes each year but the format of the event remains the same, starting with time trials and finishing on the Champs-Elysees in Paris.

Over 150 riders compete in the Tour de France, with eight people per team. Cycling betting tips usually focus on one particular rider though – teams quite often adopt a strategy to give their best rider the chance of victory.

There is a four-way tie at the top of the Tour de France winner leaderboard, with Jacques Anquetil, Eddy Merckx, Bernard Hinault and Miguel Indurain each winning the race on five occasions. British rider Mark Cavendish, meanwhile holds the all-time record for the most stage wins.

Betting on the Tour de France is ideal for passionate cycling fans – whether you’re placing an outright winner bet or fancy a particular rider to win a specific stage.

The versatile nature of the event is what makes it an attractive prospect for sports betting fans.

Olympics Cycling Tips

Great Britain also have an excellent record when it comes to cycling events at the Olympic Games, with the likes of Sir Chris Hoy, Sir Bradley Wiggins and Dame Laura Kenny thriving on the biggest stage of all. Follow the latest cycling betting tips and news before the upcoming Olympics – it will be here before you know it!

Ultimately, the main difference between Olympics cycling and other cycling betting tips are that they revolve entirely around a team. Winning a medal for yourself is one thing but to win for your country brings a whole new perspective to the sport.

https://www.888sport.com/blog/football-prediction

Cycling at the Olympic Games is intense, with excitement in the velodrome and drama in the road cycling events. Betting on cycling at the Olympics can prove lucrative but punters must be sure to research thoroughly as some teams excel in certain events.

France are the most successful nation at the Olympic Games, with 102 cycling medals won – 44 of which have been gold medals. The best French riders are likely to be popular in Olympics cycling betting tips ahead of the Games.

Cycling Betting Tips At 888sport

Betting on cycling at 888sport has never been easier. With a designated section for all of the biggest cycling events, punters can access cycling odds in the build-up to major competitions such as the Tour de France and the Olympic Games.

As with all betting tips, be sure to trust your own judgement and cycling betting knowledge rather than taking advice at face value.

Furthermore, punters can find the most important cycling betting updates on the 888sport blog.

With breaking news articles, latest cycling tips and Tour de France betting history, it is the place to be for all things cycling as we approach a busy period for the sport.

Rugby is one of the most traditional British sports and you can trace the origins of rugby union back to the mid-19th century.

Since then, the sport has evolved somewhat – and the formation of rugby league some 50 years later is perhaps the biggest change of all.

To this day, we are still blessed with both codes – much to the delight of rugby fans around the world.

While union focuses more on power and organisation, league is played at a much quicker pace and is arguably more skilful when it comes to attacking the try line.

Rugby betting for both codes is fairly similar though there are some major differences that must be noted.

These mainly relate to the different rules in union and league; the number of points for scoring, interchanges and format of competition are just three of the most obvious variations.

Rugby Betting Guide

The pinnacle of rugby union is the Rugby World Cup. This is the competition that everybody wants to win yet England are the only northern hemisphere side to lift the famous trophy.

The early rugby betting tips and odds will likely have New Zealand as firm favourites to claim victory at the 2027 Rugby World Cup.

Bet Calculator

Meanwhile, there is a Rugby League World Cup but that tournament isn’t as popular as the union version. It does, however, still amass plenty of sports betting interest.

Super League is the biggest club competition in the United Kingdom while the NRL is the standout event in Australia. Rugby league is massive Down Under and the success of the NRL has been key to their dominance on the international stage.

Without further ado, let’s get down to the important bit: our top rugby betting tips. We’ve got some general rugby betting advice along with more specific rugby union betting tips and rugby league betting tips.

Hopefully our words of wisdom can help punters to enjoy success when betting on rugby in the future!

Rugby Betting Tips

Whether you’re a rugby union fan or passionate about rugby league, one thing is for sure: both codes are extremely physical and put immense strain on players.

Fatigue and injuries play a major role in both sports, with impact injuries particularly common in union. These are factors to bear in mind when evaluating the betting markets, and could push you towards the half-time betting options.

In recent years, rugby governing bodies have enforced stricter rules relating to player safety.

Officials now have more power and red cards are being shown a lot more frequently than in years gone by – punters should bear that in mind ahead of a particularly fierce rivalry.

A total of 33 red cards have been shown at the Rugby World Cup since 1987, with seven of those handed out at the 2023 Rugby World Cup.

Every rugby union betting tips follower should be wary of this statistic and consider placing a card bet on upcoming fixtures.

Meanwhile, rugby league is still physical but the sport has evolved to focus more on skill and keeping the ball alive through the six phases of play.

We would always recommend backing the ‘over’ number of tries line ahead of a major rugby league clash.

Defence is obviously still important in rugby league but there is certainly a ‘we will outscore you’ mentality in the sport, particularly in the southern hemisphere.

Punters should be sure to research thoroughly before betting on rugby league as there are clear differences in style depending on the hemisphere.

Finding the best rugby betting tips is difficult when speaking about rugby as a whole. There are a number of ways punters can tweak their rugby betting strategy depending on if the sport in question is union or league.

You can find our top rugby betting tips for both codes below…

Rugby League Tips

Rugby league is popular in the north of England, with the likes of St. Helens, Wigan Warriors and Warrington Wolves enjoying success in recent years.

The NRL and Super League are the two biggest rugby league betting competitions and the Super League Grand Final is one of the highlights of the sporting calendar.

One thing to consider when betting on rugby league is the total points market.

Despite a try being worth four points in league compared to five in union, more often than not the points line will be higher – the average league game will have more scores than union.

Margin betting is an interesting angle for rugby league fans.

You can back a team to win by 1-6 points if you expect a tight game to be settled by less than a converted try or back the blowout, with some bookmakers offering a team to win by 19 or more points.

Rugby Union Tips

One of our top tips when betting on rugby union is to consider backing total points scored by a specific player.

Penalties and drop goals are worth three points compared to two and one respectively in rugby league so backing the team’s goal kicker can prove prudent.

Nowadays, conditions play a major part in the style of union fixtures.

Prime conditions can often see high scoring matches while rain and wind can level the playing field and almost encourages a war of attrition. Betting markets will shift drastically depending on weather conditions…

This is certainly something to bear in mind when looking at rugby union betting tips. Some teams prefer playing under a closed roof to avoid such problems, while also intensifying the atmosphere for visiting teams.

Wales, for example, regularly ask to close the Principality Stadium roof but require permission from the away side in Six Nations fixtures.

Rugby World Cup Tips

Held every four years, the Rugby World Cup sees the best teams in the business go up against each other in a bid to lift the Webb Ellis Cup.

South Africa are the most successful team in Rugby World Cup history with four titles.

While the usual contenders tend to battle it out for World Cup glory, it is worth noting that a lot can change in the four-year cycle between tournaments.

As the tournament edges closer, punters can usually find Rugby World Cup predictions and betting odds, to qualify odds and sometimes even a market that allows bettors to predict how many points a team will secure during the group stages.

Super Rugby Tips

Super Rugby is the highlight of the rugby union domestic game.

Featuring the best teams in the southern hemisphere, Super Rugby betting tips are popular with union fans around the world. You can often find Super Rugby live on Sky Sports on a Saturday morning!

With so much attacking talent on show, Super Rugby matches are usually entertaining and there is plenty of drama and excitement from start to finish.

Be sure to factor in the step up in quality when looking at Super Rugby betting tips on southern hemisphere matches.

Free Rugby League Guide

There are a few important factors to consider when betting on rugby league.

Firstly, with regards specifically to Super League – travel. With the Catalans Dragons and Toronto Wolfpack now competing in the competition, some teams may experience fatigue if hit by a congested fixture list.

The rugby league landscape is everchanging, with salary caps playing a key role in forming teams across the globe.

https://www.888sport.com/blog/football-prediction

Some teams manage to consistently perform at the top of the sport while others will enjoy the odd year of success – this helps the unpredictability of rugby league.

Furthermore, always consider exploring a range of free rugby league betting tips before you commit to a paid tipster service.

There are a number of reputable rugby league betting tips experts who offer free advice on the biggest tournaments and competitions.

Free Rugby Union Guide

Aside from keeping a close eye on weather conditions and backing the kicker, one of the most important rugby union betting tips is to follow injury news closely.

Losing a key man can prove costly, particularly in tight contests between the top union nations.

Some countries are blessed with a huge talent pool but many do not have that luxury.

You will often see teams like New Zealand experiment with players against some of the ‘lesser’ nations. While nations like Scotland and Argentina have less strength in depth.

Even though the All Blacks are still mighty, they can lose some of that pizazz if they rotate their XV and handicap odds on the underdog are worth monitoring in rugby betting tips.

If you are a fan of American football, then there is probably a good chance you will have looked at NFL betting tips at least once.

Whether you enjoy betting on the NFL every weekend or simply wish to enhance your Super Bowl experience with a fun bet, our NFL betting tips guide can give you an edge when American football betting.

Winning the Super Bowl is the dream for every NFL organisation and punters regularly place a bet on the showpiece winner after looking at NFL Super Bowl betting tips at the beginning of the season.

https://www.888sport.com/blog/football-prediction

The NFL regular season kicks off in September and usually ends at the start of January, with the playoffs taking place in the build-up to the Super Bowl in February.

NFL Betting Guide

American football fans will be keeping a close eye on the NFL Draft betting tips ahead of the new season. The NFL Draft gives supporters insight into some of the top prospects making the step up from college to professional level.

Some of the greatest players in NFL betting history have been selected with the first overall pick in the NFL Draft but it doesn’t always work out that way.

Tom Brady, for example, was taken by the New England Patriots with the 199th overall pick in the 2000 NFL Draft.

Without further ado, let’s get down to the important stuff: our best NFL betting tips. With a bit of luck, our American football guide can help punters profit when betting on NFL this year…

NFL Betting Tips

The easiest and most popular way to bet on NFL is to back a team to win a match.

As is the case with most American sports, bookmakers usually offer this as the ‘money line’ while also offering the chance to back a team to win by a certain number of points.

The NFL handicap betting line differs depending on the match you use but punters can also decide to back the underdog to win, draw or lose by a certain margin.

For example, if the Dallas Cowboys are +5.5 points underdogs, your bet would win if they lost by five points.

Meanwhile, some punters prefer to back the over/under total points line in some games.

If there are two top quarterbacks going up against one another, it may prove prudent to back a high-scoring game instead of committing to placing an NFL bet on a team to win.

Furthermore, punters can place a long term outright bet on a team to win a division, their conference or the Super Bowl. Look out for each-way betting options when evaluating NFL outright markets.

Some bookmakers will let punters place an NFL accumulator bet on divisional betting so be sure to do your research before betting on NFL.

Here at 888sport, we also give customers the chance to bet on specific teams.

Ahead of the upcoming season, punters can back ‘yes or no’ for a team to make the playoffs while there is also a market relating to number of wins recorded in the regular season.

NFL betting tips are widely available on the internet and American football is growing at an incredible rate. The NFL sports betting markets are only growing in popularity.

Furthermore, some bookmakers also cover the Canadian Football League – also known as the CFL.

The Grey Cup is among the most prestigious trophies in American football and that is the target for the competing CFL teams at the beginning of each season.

More often than not, punters can bet in-play on CFL matches during the campaign.

Like the college game, there are the usual contenders who feature prominently at the business end of the year and shrewd punters will follow the latest CFL betting tips before placing a wager.

Free NFL Betting Tips

American football’s rise to prominence in this country has led to a huge improvement with regards to knowledge of the sport.

With that in mind, free NFL betting tips can often be as lucrative as paid tips these days – there are certainly plenty of options for punters.

Some tipsters will claim to be NFL experts but it is well worth doing your research before taking their word as gospel.

Find the most successful NFL betting tips writers in the industry and keep track of their selections for a few weeks before investing any money.

You’ll notice that most of the top NFL betting experts tend to follow a specific system.

Some will choose a number of home teams to win each week while others will always back certain teams to record over the set number of points.

It may not be the same Royal Ascot as we have come to know and love over the years, with the pomp and ceremony and all the bells that go with it, but the 2020 Royal Meeting (16th to 20th June) is still be taking place, albeit behind closed doors and for that racing fans are eternally grateful.

In this unprecedented year, there are several alterations to the programme, including six extra races being added to the overall fixture.

There will be seven races staged on the first four days, with eight on the final card. For the purposes of this piece, we shall preview two of the key horse racing betting events on each of the five days.

TUESDAY

1:50pm – Queen Anne Stakes (1m)

You have to go back to 2008 to last find when Aidan O’Brien last trained the winner of this race and his Circus Maximus (3/1) is one of the favourites for this year’s contest.

The four-year-old won the St James’s Palace Stakes over a mile at this meeting last year before going on to land another Group 1 in the Prix du Moulin at Longchamp.

We last saw him running at Santa Anita where he was fourth in the Breeders’ Cup Mile but you would expect this stiffer mile to suit him better.

French raider Plumtatic (20/1) is really interesting at a price in the Royal Ascot ante post odds and could easily be overlooked on the day.

Francis-Henri Graffard has previously sent some smart horses to Royal Ascot and this ex-Andre Fabre-trained six-year-old ran a pleasing second in a Group 3 at Chantilly last month.

3:35pm – King’s Stand Stakes (5f)

Battaash (Evs) will once again be all the rage for this 5f dash, but despite being one of the best sprinters in training, this is a race that keeps eluding him.

The Charlie Hills-trained star may well be worth taking on by the gutsy Glass Slippers (6/1) who had a wonderful season in 2019.

She won the Prix de l’Abbaye very impressively in October and Kevin Ryan has had this race earmarked for her ever since.

WEDNESDAY

1:50pm – Hampton Court Stakes (1m 2f)

2000 Guineas fifth Juan Elcano (5/2) should come on for that run and Kevin Ryan fancies his chances in this.

Aidan O’Brien’s eighth placed Guineas runner New World Tapestry (33/1) is also another who should improve for the experience and looks too big in the betting.

3:30pm - Prince Of Wales's Stakes (1m 2f)

A multiple Group winner last season, Japan (11/10) will have been one of the first names Aidan O'Brien penned on his list to ship over to England for the Royal Meeting.

He signed off last season with a creditable fourth in the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe at Longchamp and is the one they all have to beat here. William Haggas’ Australian scorer Addeybb is likely be on the premises late on too.

THURSDAY

3:00pm – Chesham Stakes (7f)

Charlie Appleby will be hoping that his Modern News (5/1) can follow in the footsteps of Pinatubo who won this contest last year.

The chestnut colt made a nice impression on his debut at Newmarket and he can reap the rewards once again for the Godolphin team.

Andrew Balding’s Bright Devil (8/1) beat some well bred two-year-olds at headquarters last time and can be in the mix once again.

3:35pm – Ascot Gold Cup (2m 4f)

Stradivarius (5/6) is going for the Gold Cup hat-trick here but there are plenty out there now who believe that he’s not quite as invincible as he was after losing his last two races.

Kew Gardens (7/2) turned over Stradivarius in the Long Distance Cup and ranks as a formidable adversary once again while last season’s Prix Chaudenay form is working out well this year, which suggests Technician has a lively outside chance.

FRIDAY

2:25pm - Norfolk Stakes (5f)

Sheikh Fahad Al Thani swept straight in to purchase The Lir Jet (8/1) after his impressive debut success at Yarmouth.

The son of Prince Of Lir broke the all-aged track record at the Norfolk track when scooting home over five furlongs to score for Michael Bell’s son, Nick.

Mark Johnston’s Eye Of Heaven (5/1) was also a track record breaker, registering the best ever time for a two-year-old over the minimum distance at Newmarket. The showdown with The Lir Jet should be a sight to behold.

3:35pm – Commonwealth Cup (6f)

The Roger Varian-trained Pierre Lapin (5/1) has been well supported in the ante-post horse racing market for this race on the back of his two decent wins last season.

Victories at Haydock and in the Mill Reef at Newbury understanably put the Sheikh Mohammed Obaid Al Maktoum-owned colt on many a radar for this event.

The French-trained Wooded (10/1) was well touted beforehand for the Prix Texanita at Chantilly which he duly won with plenty to spare.

The Al Shaqab-owned three-year-old merits plenty of consideration when drawing up a shortlist for this race.

SATURDAY

3:00pm - St James's Palace Stakes (1m)

Pinatubo’s (7/4) 2,000 Guineas attempt may not have gone to plan, but Charlie Appleby is giving him a quick second chance to redeem himself over a mile at Royal Ascot.

Good horses do not go bad overnight and the son of Shamardal will undoubtedly be a force to be reckoned with here.

Guineas runner-up Wichita (7/4) and stablemate Arizona (12/1) will also be live contenders in this for Aidan O’Brien.

Wichita looked the winner for much of the way in the Guineas, only to be picked off late and a repeat of that performance will see the colt right in the thick of it.

Arizona needs to bounce back but anything is possible when O’Brien works his magic.

Threat (8/1) could be just that and Oisin Murphy has been booked to ride the Richard Hannon-trained son of Footstepsinthestand for the Cheveley Park Stud.

3:35pm – Diamond Jubilee Stakes (6f)

The Kevin Ryan-trained Hello Youmzain (6/1) can kick his five-year-old season off in fine style by taking this valuable 6f race on one of the biggest stages of them all.

If he can replicate his Sprint Cup triumph at Haydock then he can rule the roost once more.

Roger Varian’s Cape Byron (14/1) is very dangerous to ignore at a double figure price given the three top quality races he won last season.

Boxing is the oldest and most popular of the combat sports.

While mixed martial arts grows at a fast rate of knots, boxing is the traditional fighting sport in the United Kingdom and we are blessed to have had some of the greatest boxers of all-time

Boxing betting tips can be found ahead of most major fights and it has never been easier to place a bet on boxing.

The success of British fighters has helped punters to develop a wider knowledge of the sport and boxing betting tips can prove lucrative in the long term.

    Boxing Betting Guide

Boxing has transformed over the years, with more competitors challenging for world title belts at the highest level of the sport.

The boxing governing bodies opted to narrow down the weight classes a few decades ago and that presented ‘fringe’ fighters with a chance to challenge for the biggest prizes in the sport.

    Bet Calculator

Without a doubt, the world heavyweight championship is the pinnacle of boxing.

With four organisations that sanction professional boxing matches, there are four titles up for grabs and every fighter dreams of becoming the undisputed world champion in their respective weight class.

The biggest boxing betting tips followers will already have one eye on upcoming fights while novices may need to learn a little more about the sport before placing a boxing bet.

With that in mind, here are our top boxing betting tips for newbies and combat sports experts.

    Boxing Betting Tips

The best way to get involved with boxing betting tips is to back a fighter to win a bout.

This is the easiest and most popular way of betting on boxing, though the odds are usually short and tend not to offer punters too much with regards to value.

To increase your odds, shrewd boxing betting tips punters may consider the ‘win method’ market.

Essentially, punters can back either fighter to win by KO, TKO or DQ, on points or the fight to end as a draw. For some boxers, there can be major discrepancy between this market and the outright win boxing betting odds.

Tyson Fury is the prime example.

As one of the dominant forces in world boxing, Fury tends to be very short for his fights but backing the WBC world heavyweight champion to win by points can often prove more lucrative than in the ‘to win bout’ markets.

In addition, punters may choose to back a fight to go the distance in closer bouts.

It can be difficult to back a winner of some fights if both competitors are evenly matched and that brings the ‘fight to go the distance’ boxing odds into play.

Rounds betting is another popular option with boxing betting tips aficionados.

Most boxing odds allow punters to select a specific round for a fighter to win a bout, as well as ‘grouped rounds betting’ – where you can back a boxer to win in a certain period of the fight.

The grouped rounds betting option tends to change per bout, so be sure to check markets carefully before placing your boxing bet.

Sometimes you can back a fighter to win in rounds 1-6, other times the groups will be 1-3, 4-6, etc…

Find a boxing betting tips system that works for you and stick with it. Betting on boxing can be rewarding but be sure to place emphasis on excitement and entertainment.

Following a pattern of boxing betting tips and keeping a log of boxing bets is one of our top tips.

    Free Boxing Tips

Our top tip when it comes to boxing betting is research. It is quite easy to get carried away by statistics ahead of a fight but sometimes a fighter’s record isn’t quite what it seems.

Be sure to find as much information as possible regarding each fight; whether it was a knockout win, what round the fight ended and how the judges scored the bout.

Boxing is all about opinions and you’ll find mixed views on fighters and bouts, whether you pay for tips or follow free boxing betting tips.

Don’t get drawn into adopting a new boxing betting strategy just because a paid tipster recommends a certain method, follow your own guide and hopefully you will enjoy boxing betting success.

As is the case with most sports, punters can find paid boxing betting tips – but it is vital to monitor any profit/loss records for paid punters before entering a subscription.

With boxing growing in popularity, there are now a number of excellent free boxing betting tipsters on the internet.

Free boxing betting tips can turn out to be just as lucrative in the long term, particularly if you manage to find an excellent source of information. These can help you compile the perfect trixie bet for a big fight night.

Boxing news websites quite often publish video footage of training, as well as press conference clips and quotes – a fighter’s mentality before the bout can tell punters a lot about their tactics.

    Heavyweight Boxing Tips

For many boxing fans, the heavyweight division is the one to follow.

Knockout blows are aplenty and the drama and excitement is cranked up a notch – boxing betting tips can be found for every major heavyweight fight.

One of the most important things to remember when betting on heavyweight boxing is that the knockout percentage is much greater than some of the lower weights.

    https://www.888sport.com/blog/football-prediction

While that tends to be reflected in the boxing odds, backing a fight to finish before the scheduled regulation distance is often the way to go.

Again, some heavyweight boxers pride themselves on their knockout ability and that should always be considered when looking at boxing betting tips for heavyweight fights.

Take Deontay Wilder. The American has the highest knockout rate of any heavyweight fighter, which is a factor to consider when betting on his bouts.

    Upcoming Bouts Boxing

Passionate boxing fans will know all about upcoming fights and punters can find a range of boxing betting tips and odds on confirmed bouts.

These range from flyweight fights to world heavyweight title clashes – so be sure to check the latest boxing news for breaking fights.

As fight night draws closer, boxing betting tips will start to surface and more boxing odds on upcoming fights will become available.

Some bookmakers will offer specials on upcoming bouts so it is well worth checking around to find the best boxing betting tips value.

Punters can take advantage of favourable odds in the build-up to a major bout.

Research into training regimes and make the most of open training sessions to judge both fighters and you could find an early boxing betting tip that proves lucrative come fight night.

    Unconfirmed Bouts Boxing

Be wary – not every bookmaker offers odds on unconfirmed bouts and each will have their own terms and conditions regarding this boxing betting market.

Be sure to look into the permutations before placing a bet on unconfirmed boxing bouts.

In a nutshell, fights that have been rumoured but are yet to be formally announced tend to fit into this bracket.

Most unconfirmed bouts betting markets have a specified date that the fight has to take place by in order to qualify – so it is well worth doing research before betting on unconfirmed fights.

Furthermore, the number of boxing betting tips available for unconfirmed bouts is usually limited.

In fact, most bookmakers tend to offer the ‘to win bout’ market and that’s about it so if you prefer a more specific bet then it is well worth waiting until the bout has been officially confirmed.

    Boxing Tips With 888sport

Hopefully this guide to the best boxing betting tips helps to enhance your boxing experience going forward.

If you would like to read more boxing betting tips, fight previews and find the latest boxing odds on upcoming bouts, 888sport is the place to be.

With a team of sports betting experts focusing on a range of sports, boxing betting tips are high on the priority list for major fights.

As with all betting tips, research thoroughly before following any boxing betting tips on upcoming bouts.

Meanwhile, UFC fans can also find the latest mixed martial arts news and tips along with other major combat sports.

The boxing-UFC crossover fight between Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather Jr really helped to put UFC on the map and it could be as popular as boxing in the not-too-distant future. Keep your eyes peeled for further crossovers in UFC betting markets in the future.

Former Chelsea and Holland defender Mario Melchiot insists the Blues’ new signing Hakim Ziyech has what it takes to be a Premier League sensation next season.

“Tactically you learn a lot in Holland but I think character-wise Ziyech will learn a lot when he comes to England. But I don’t worry about him or his character because he already had to survive by himself to get where he is today.

"He went to Ajax and had to stand his ground there to make it. He managed to win over everybody and they saw a footballer that was from a different planet and they had to give him credit.”

Though he soon became a firm fan favourite at the Bridge, Melchiot knows all too well the difficulties that must be overcome when moving from the Dutch giant to Chelsea, having made the same switch in 1999.

Namely, it is about handling the relentlessness of fixtures.

“If he gets into Frank’s team and plays the games I expect him to then I don’t see any problems because he has the ability.

"The only worry is that with English teams the games come back-to-back and you need the right character because this is another level. Frank will have looked at a few players and wondered if they can handle this. Ziyech can.”

Mention of the boss brings us to Melchiot’s ex-team mate, who has greatly impressed him since taking on the reins last summer, particularly in his shrewd recruitment of back-room staff.

“Sometimes people play it down but for Frank Lampard to step up from managing Derby to such a big team as Chelsea you need to stay calm and build the right team around you.

"He took his time and made sure he brought in those who know the things that he doesn’t know.”

Having spent five years in West London – winning the FA Cup in the process – the 43-year-old is well placed to offer valuable insight into all things Chelsea and this is especially true when it comes to the right-back position he made his own as the Blues established themselves in the 2000s as a force to be reckoned with.

With teenager Reece James emerging as a huge prospect could he become England’s first choice in that role for years to come under some extremely tough competition?

“When you talk about Alexander-Arnold I’m excited about him and the way he plays. He switches the play really comfortably. Wan-Bissaka is more defensive.

"But Reece James has the ability, he has the strength, he has the speed to keep up with people, and he knows how to work it.

"There are still a couple of things he needs to add to his game but if he can become a regular with Chelsea he can compete with those two guys and why wouldn’t he want to do that? That’s why we play football – to compete with the best.”

If the highly promising James is set to nail down the right-back berth for the foreseeable future what of the other flank?

Rumours abound that Chelsea are keen to address a long-standing weakness on the left by making a mega-money bid for Leicester’s Ben Chilwell and though Melchiot is a clear admirer he remains unsure if the England international is the finished article at this stage.

“He is very talented, very gifted, but what Chilwell is going through now is what all the best full-backs go through. It’s the same with Alexander-Arnold. People know they can deliver a ball when the time is right so what are they going to test you on?

"They are going to test you defensively. That is what both players are experiencing. With Wan-Bissaka, it is his attacking moves. Can he deliver the same as what he does defensively?

“So all these full-backs for England…yes, you guys have some great choices to make and Chilwell is one of them. He is an exciting player and that’s why it is normal that Chelsea are looking at him.”

Whether the Foxes full-back heads south or not Chelsea are supremely well furnished at present with young English talent, a direct result of boasting one of the most enviable academies in the country.

From these prospects it is Mason Mount who stands out for Melchiot as the one to watch.

“Mount is doing well but he’s going to get a lot of competition from people coming in. I like him because he is very smart. Football now is played between the two lines and when you’re attacking that is between the defensive line and the midfield line.

"That is where you can pick up the ball and when I look at Mason Mount he is very clever and knows when to drop short and when to ask for the ball to be long.”

It is at the back though where the affable pundit is naturally drawn to, with one player especially held in high esteem - he certainly gives Chelsea a lift in the football betting odds.

Antonio Rudiger has cemented a place in all Chelsea supporters’ hearts in recent seasons with a string of committed, no-nonsense displays and Melchiot believes he is precisely the warrior-type that Lampard should build his new-look team around.

Assuming that is, the perfect partner is found to compliment him.

“Rudiger has experience and has played at a great international level. He has a good standing at Chelsea and I like him as a player. He’s doing really well. He is very strong and came back well from his injury when others had a chance to take his place.

"The next step now is to build a side around him but it’s important to find a centre-back partner who is not like him. They can’t play the same way.”

“They have to find someone who has the ability to defend but doesn’t defend like him. The two guys in the middle of the park should never be identical.

"Both should be strong sure, but maybe a guy who is on a different scale technically whereas Rudiger is a guy who says ‘don’t mess around with me’.”

Chelsea return to action next week entrenched in a battle to secure a Champions League qualification spot with just five points separating fourth from seventh.

With Chelsea currently sitting top of that mini-league how does the ex-Birmingham and Wigan star see the remaining nine games playing out?

“It was always going to be an exciting race and now it depends on how teams kick-off.

"I expect Chelsea to start again just as well as everybody else but it’s like at the beginning of a season when you see smaller teams who don’t have an advantage financially: they tend to start off well.

"So that is the only thing I’m a little bit worried about but away from that I don’t see Chelsea having a problem because the Champions League is a must.”

These days top four is the barest minimum for the Blues but when Mario Melchiot bossed the right hand side of the Stamford Bridge pitch they were just beginning to emerge as a presence among the elite.

Back then winning the FA Cup – as they did in 2000 – was a special achievement indeed and the player’s recollection of that day is wholly endearing.

“My favourite memory is the Prince of Wales giving us a handshake and then you go on the field and then you win! That’s the best thing ever. As a child you have a picture in your head and you try to achieve that.

"So you play in Holland and you have a picture in your head to go on and play for Ajax. Then you become a Ajax first team player.

"Then you are introduced to English football by your older brother and you think, ‘wow, one day I want to play at Wembley’. Then you manage to play at Wembley and win things.”

“Always make your dreams bigger than what you think is possible. That was one example. It was way bigger than I thought.”

If you are a betting aficionado, the chances are you have placed a bet on horse racing at some point in your life.

Whether you are a ‘once a year’ punter on the Grand National or religiously follow Royal Ascot odds, horse racing betting tips are up there with football as the most popular in the United Kingdom.

Betting on horse racing is straightforward. Ultimately, you can place a bet on a horse to win, you can add each way leg to an outright win bet, you can bet on a horse to finish in the places and you can bet on specific horses to finish in the top two/three in any given order or certain order.

Horse racing betting tips are widely available throughout the year, with the National Hunt jumps season taking place in the winter months before the flat season takes centre stage during the summer.

Some punters stick to the flat, others follow jumps racing and some even keep up with both types of horse racing.

    Horse Racing Betting Guide

With so much horse racing on over the course of the year, punters are advised to focus on a specific type of horse racing bet.

Some horse racing tips focus purely on racing at a specific venue, others enjoy distance betting markets while a few may even attempt to predict every winner on the race card at a meeting.

There is unlimited scope to betting on horse racing and the exciting nature of the sport is key to the enjoyment for entertainment for punters.

Like athletes, every horse has a unique approach to racing – some will prefer to make the running while others rely on stamina with a late burst in the final furlong.

Without further ado, it’s time to check out our top horse racing betting tips.

Be sure to keep an eye out for upcoming horse racing betting meetings – researching early can bear fruitful results when it comes to big fixtures, such as Cheltenham Festival betting tips.

    Horse Racing Betting Tips

In general, horse racing is a fairly easy sport to get to grips with. The rules and regulations differ slightly around the world but place terms, odds and horse racing betting strategies are similar on the whole.

This is beneficial for horse racing fans who follow major meetings from around the world.

Learning how to read a racecard can be helpful when assessing horse racing betting tips at a racecourse but most bookmakers provide guides on how to place a bet on horse racing.

    Bet Calculator

So if you’re a newbie to horse racing betting, relax – there is lots of relevant information to help you.

The simplest way to place a bet is to select a horse to win an upcoming race. You can choose whether to back the horse to win or place an each way bet, which covers the win leg but also covers the selection to finish in the places.

In addition, punters can also find ante post horse racing odds for major meetings, such as Royal Ascot and the Grand National.

Forecast betting is trickier but the concept is also simple enough to understand. Essentially, you can back two runners to finish in a specific order in a race or place a ‘reverse forecast’ bet that covers both permutations.

Punters will not receive guaranteed odds as winnings are dependent on the total forecast dividend.

    UK Horse Racing Tips

The United Kingdom is the epicentre of the horse racing betting universe.

Along with the likes of Australia, France and the United States, horse racing in the UK is huge – with millions of horse racing fans tuning in to watch the best horses compete at the biggest events.

In terms of flat racing, Royal Ascot is the pinnacle. Fans eagerly flock to Ascot racecourse for five days of top class flat racing, with the top rated thoroughbreds competing for some of the most lucrative prizes in the sport.

Held annually every June, this is a huge meeting for UK horse racing tips experts.

Steeped in rich history, the Derby is arguably the biggest race of the flat season. First held back in 1780, it is the highlight of the Epsom Downs horse racing calendar and it is widely regarded as the most prestigious of the five English Classics.

Along with the 2000 Guineas and St Leger, it makes up flat racing’s Triple Crown.

Meanwhile, the Cheltenham Festival attracts plenty of horse racing betting attention over the course of the year.

With a number of preview nights and ante post experts giving their insight on social media, Cheltenham is a huge hit with National Hunt fans and it stands tall as the ultimate meeting in jumps racing.

However, the Grand National remains the most famous jumps racing event of the year – particularly with the wider horse racing betting community.

Like the Derby, the Aintree race is steeped in history, with origins as far back as 1839. You won’t be able to read the latest horse racing news without seeing the Grand National referenced!

    Free Horse Racing Tips

With the possible exception of football, horse racing tips are probably the easiest sports betting tips to find – whether that’s online or in a newspaper.

Plenty of horse racing fans offer their own insight into upcoming meetings, with Cheltenham ante post picks and free horse racing tips UK available daily.

In fact, many respectable publications offer free daily horse racing tips over the course of the campaign.

Jumps racing experts regularly discuss upcoming fixtures while flat racing tips and odds are available during the summer months.

    https://www.888sport.com/blog/football-prediction

It is important to remember that some paid horse racing tips may prove prudent in the long term but paying for betting tips does NOT guarantee success.

If you are considering joining a paid horse racing betting service, make sure you research thoroughly into the subscription.

However, if you’d rather focus on free betting tips on horse racing then many experts offer similar performance levels to paid tipsters.

Try and find a horse racing tipster who has an updated profit/loss account and offers daily horse racing tips with a rating for each bet.

    Horse Racing Predictions

The horse racing betting tips calendar is unique in a number of ways but most of all it is that there is no ‘right’ time to begin your horse racing betting for any given meeting.

Some may choose to build up a fund slowly over time while others may prefer to place one single bet on a selection – following odds and markets closely is key to success.

Plenty of punters will follow a range of horse racing betting tipsters but everyone will have different opinions; that is just the way racing works.

Remember, study form meticulously before looking at horse racing betting odds and be sure to get the best price available from online bookmakers.

As previously mentioned, free horse racing betting tips are availably every day of the racing calendar – punters just need to make sure they always do their own research before placing a bet on horse racing.

The latest horse racing tips from our team of experts here at 888sport can be found on the blog page.

Horse Racing Betting Tips For Beginners

If you’re a newbie – or novice to use a horse racing term – to racing then don’t worry, horse racing is one of the easiest sports to follow once you learn the ropes.

Studying form is key to success, not just reading a number 1 and assuming that horse should win; there are various levels of horse racing and different types of horse racing bets.

Group/Graded racing is the elite level, with Group/Grade 1 pitting the best horses against each other in the biggest races.

These are the most lucrative and prestigious races in the sport and only the top rated horses in jumps racing and flat racing will compete at this level.

Be careful to follow only the very best free horse racing tips – there are a number of ways to distinguish between the top tipsters and fraudsters.

Also, be sure to keep a betting log for all of your horse racing betting tips, whether they win or lose. In the long term, this could be the difference between profit and loss if you regularly update and maintain your system.

    Grand National Betting Tips

The highlight of the horse racing betting season for many National Hunt tipsters, the Grand National is a fantastic spectacle.

You don’t need to be the biggest horse racing fan in the world to enjoy the Aintree showpiece, with three days of exhilarating jumps racing action culminating in the biggest horse racing betting event of the year.

With 40 runners and riders taking part, the Grand National is the most entertaining race of the year – friends and family create Aintree sweepstakes for the race while horse racing betting tips can be found for almost every competitor.

It truly is a magnificent fixture to behold and it is well worth a trip to Merseyside to witness the big race.

If you’re looking for a sport to bet year-round, look no further than cricket. Arguably the most popular bat and ball game on the planet, cricket betting tips are popular in the United Kingdom – particularly ahead of major cricket tournaments.

It isn’t the simplest sport to bet on but cricket fans can find a range of betting markets with most bookmakers, including outright series winner, top batsman and backing a player to hit over/under a certain number of runs in an innings.

Whether you’re a long term cricket follower or new to the sport, cricket betting tips may be of interest to you. Punters should weigh up the latest cricket tips while researching the sport when placing a bet on cricket.

    Cricket Betting Guide

One of the main reasons for the success of cricket is versatility. Some fans enjoy watching the longer form of the game, with five-day Test matches taking centre stage for traditional cricket viewers.

However, Test cricket has undoubtedly struggled as the shorter formats have flourished.

One-Day International cricket offers fans a middle ground, with a maximum of 100 overs split between the two competing teams. This is perhaps the most popular form of cricket, due to the overlap in support between long form viewers and short term cricket lovers.

    Bet Calculator

Last but not least, we have Twenty20 cricket. In terms of cricket betting tips, this is the most enjoyable and exciting form of cricket. It is a fast and furious style of cricket but one that swings back and forth and that only contributes to the drama of the game.

Ultimately, cricket is a sport for the masses. You don’t need to follow all forms of the game to enjoy at least one type of cricket and that is a key factor for younger generations to get involved in the sport.

The cricket world is changing and the focus of cricket betting tips are also changing accordingly.

    Cricket Betting Tips

Cricket betting isn’t as popular as football or horse racing but passionate cricket tipsters can find that betting on cricket is just as lucrative as other sports.

While cricket is still something of a niche sport, the shorter form of the game is getting more and more popular.

There is certainly money to be made if you are astute with betting on cricket, particularly if you are happy to play the long game.

Outright winner odds are often very appealing indeed due to the competitive nature of the sport and cricket betting odds are well worth looking at. For multi-team tournaments like the World Cup and IPL, each-way bets are worth consideration in cricket outright markets.

With scoring records tumbling in recent years, teams are enjoying greater success with the bat in the modern era.

Run rates are on the rise across formats, which is a factor to consider as you make your cricket betting predictions.

Cricket fans in the United Kingdom will know all about the Ashes – and it is undoubtedly one of the biggest cricket betting tips competitions.

England and Australia have a fierce rivalry when it comes to cricket and each Ashes series is usually eagerly anticipated.

Meanwhile, there is more than one edition of the Cricket World Cup.

England were crowned men's world champions for the first time in 2019 with an infamous victory over New Zealand – a match that will live long in the memory for cricket fans around the world.

The 50-over version is widely regarded as the ‘official’ Cricket World Cup, with the One-Day International format preferred to the Twenty20 World Cup.

However, both tournaments see a team crowed world champions and that is why the best cricket team in the world is usually ambiguous.

With domestic tournaments taking place over the course of the year and international Test matches held around the world, cricket betting tips can be found on the biggest events all year round.

Don’t miss out on the latest cricket tips and odds with 888sport!

    Free Cricket Betting Predictions

Some of the best cricket betting tips come at a price but most tipsters offer a range of free betting picks.

Whether that’s long term outright tournament bets, selecting a batsman to score the most runs in an upcoming Test series or backing a bowler to take five wickets in an innings, free cricket betting tips are widely available.

Follow cricket reports and news regarding players via a credible cricket betting tips source; either a reliable sports newspaper or cricket reporter account on social media should prove sufficient.

As is the case with most sports betting, reliable information and research are key to success when it comes to following cricket betting tips.

While some paid tipsters will fare better than free tipsters, many punters don’t want to have to pay for betting tips, and understandably so.

Be sure to research into the best free cricket betting tips before committing to a paid subscription tipping service; there is plenty of choice out there.

    Ashes Betting Tips

If you’ve watched Test cricket, then chances are you’ve watched the Ashes.

First held back in 1882, this titanic series pits two giants of international cricket up against each other in a gruelling five-match Test series, with alternating hosts every couple of years.

Australia have 34 Ashes series victories to England’s 32 while seven have ended in a draw.

If the series ends as a draw, the current holders retain the urn – this occurred in 2019  and 2023 as Australia kept hold of the Ashes despite drawing the series.

    https://www.888sport.com/blog/football-prediction

The next Ashes series will take place in Australia, with the first Test match scheduled to get underway in late 2025.

Australia will be favourites to prevail on home turf and most cricket betting tips are likely to tip the Baggy Greens to retain the Ashes.

With only a draw required to keep the urn Down Under, Australia are likely to be a short price to retain the Ashes. Don't write off England, though, as they have a raft of fast bowlers ready to challenge the Aussies.

Be wary of betting on a series result OR for a team to win the urn as most bookmakers will be offering two different sets of cricket odds on these markets.

    Cricket World Cup Betting Tips

Compared to the Ashes, the Cricket World Cup is a relatively modern concept in cricket.

The first tournament was hosted by England in 1975 though it would be the West Indies who claimed victory after defeating Australia in the final.

Australia have been the dominant force in the Cricket World Cup over the years, lifting the trophy on six occasions.

However, history will count for very little in the cricket betting tips and odds ahead of the 2027 competition in South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia.

After winning in India in 2023, Australia will likely be among the favourites in 2027.

Keeping an eye on the latest cricket betting tips in the build-up to cricket’s top international tournament is essential to follow any trends.

Our top Cricket World Cup betting tip is to avoid getting too involved early on.

Anything can happen in international sport and it may prove prudent to wait until squads are confirmed before betting on the Cricket World Cup.

    T20 World Cup Betting Tips

Twenty20 is the fastest and arguably most entertaining form of cricket.

The drama of cricket is certainly enhanced when there is a close run chase heading into the final over – you can’t quite beat the 20-over format of the sport when it comes to intensity.

South Africa hosted the inaugural T20 World Cup back in 2007 though it would be India who defeated Pakistan in the final.

On that occasion, India won by just five runs after a topsy-turvy affair and that really helped to put T20 international cricket betting tips on the map.

Nowadays, the T20 World Cup is not held in the same esteem as the 50-over version but it remains a popular target for cricket betting tips fans. Players that impress in the T20 World Cup often earn themselves a sizeable franchise contract in the following months.

England, India, and West Indies are the three teams to have won the T20 World Cup more than once.

Punters will be eyeing up the latest Twenty20 cricket betting tips ahead of the tournament and opting for the record number of runs might be the way to go.

Batsmen are now more prolific than ever before and a high-scoring tournament looks very likely indeed.

    Online Betting Tips On Cricket

Keeping up to date with the latest cricket news is vital for any avid sports betting fan.

There are various websites dedicated to cricket injury news, cricket statistics and head-to-head cricket history – and it is always better to research thoroughly before betting on cricket.

The Ashes is the pinnacle of Test cricket in England and Australia.

In terms of cricket betting, the Ashes is unique for punters and the competition is steeped in rich history – which helps contribute to the drama and excitement of cricket bets throughout the series.

The County Championship season also attracts plenty of betting attention, though perhaps not quite as much as the T20 tournaments.

The Vitality Blast is especially popular here in the United Kingdom, as is the Indian Premier League – arguably the best Twenty20 competition in cricket. The ECB has looked to attract new fans with the controversial introduction of The Hundred.

Punters can find the best cricket betting tips free of charge on the 888sport blog throughout the year – whether you want to bet on the Ashes or place a Cricket World Cup bet.

With the biggest cricket betting news, previews and tips, why would you want to be anywhere else?

Please remember to gamble responsibly when betting on cricket. With so many cricket tips now readily available, make sure to always do your own research and know your limits when looking at the latest cricket betting tips.

Best of luck with all of your cricket bets!

    Sports Betting Tips

The most important things to remember when sports betting are to research thoroughly, be shrewd with your bets and most of all, enjoy yourself.

There are going to be ups and downs in your sports betting experience, but that's just part of the process.

Without further ado, let’s get down to our top tips for sports betting fans. Take note of this advice and remember to consider every factor when viewing sports betting tips and odds in the future.

    Broaden Your Knowledge

First of all, you are going to want to expand your general sports betting knowledge. Find out the different betting markets available on certain sports – whether that’s over/under goals in ice hockey, handicap betting in football or round betting in boxing.

In addition, learn how to read sports betting tips and markets. Decide whether you prefer to view odds as decimals or as fractions – or even American betting odds if that's easier for you to interpret.

This is a key factor to consider as punters need to fully understand what they are betting on.

Familiarising yourself with the wider sports betting industry will be beneficial, both in the short term and going forward. It is an ever-changing universe so developing an awareness and knowledge of sports betting tips can give punters a huge advantage.

Most bookmakers have compiled sports betting guides with the ‘need to know’ information for punters – these can be very helpful. If you are unsure on any rules and regulations, be sure to do your sports betting research before placing a wager.

There are some markets that require a thorough understanding; particularly in horse racing. Ante post betting, forecast betting and placepot betting are just a few examples of the more complicated types of horse racing bet available with bookmakers.

An increased knowledge of sports betting tips will help even the most pragmatic punter. The ability to then expand your betting experience by placing different bets across a range of sports should only enhance the excitement and entertainment.

Furthermore, broadening your sports betting tips knowledge should help your own decision-making when it comes to placing a bet.

Sports betting tips are widely available but punters should ultimately trust their own judgement – tipsters don’t always get it right!

Start with the fundamentals and slowly improve your sports betting tips techniques once you are comfortable with every aspect of the industry. Research the latest sports betting systems, find out which types of bets work for you and which ones don’t.

    Focus On Your Favourite Sports

Once you are comfortable and confident in your own sports betting tips knowledge, you could decide to focus on your favourite sports. With an increased understanding of sports betting tips, put your skills into practice by betting on your favourite sports.

It is much smarter to specialise in a particular sport than it is to try and adopt a ‘jack of all trades’ approach to sports betting tips. In the long term, you will stand a better chance of sports betting success by focusing on familiar and enjoyable sports than others.

Naturally, punters will already have an informed view on their favourite sports. The key to success when it comes to sports betting tips is to stay patient and focus on finding the best value bets. Remember, sports betting is a marathon and not a sprint.

    Bet Calculator

Moreover, punters are likely to enjoy their sports betting experience more if they place a bet on one of their favourite sports.

If you’re a huge horse racing fan, betting on the Grand National is an absolute given – and the excitement of trying to beat 39 other runners is exhilarating.

Every person in sports betting is different – some punters will prefer to bet on an outright winner, others may prefer place betting or backing goals.

One punter’s fortune is another’s misery and the key is focusing on sports betting tips that interest you and you only.

    Enjoy Sports Betting

One of the most important pieces of advice on this list of sports betting tips. Having fun and enjoying placing a bet on sports is absolutely vital – sports betting should be entertaining and exciting before anything else.

Whether you bet once a year, once a month or daily, make sure enjoyment and fun is at the heart of your sports betting experience.

Forming a syndicate is an exciting opportunity for sports betting tips fans and some bookmakers allow punters to create ‘group bets’ with friends.

Introducing an enjoyable social aspect to sports betting tips is positive, particularly if you can develop and maintain friendships through a fun group bet every now and then.

Keep Track Of Sports Betting Tips

The best way to monitor your bets is by keeping a sports betting tips log.

Punters tend to find that taking note of bets helps to determine which betting techniques are working well and which sports betting strategies to avoid in the future.

If you find that a particular type of bet is proving successful, it may prove prudent to focus on that specific sports betting market going forward. Monitoring bets is also useful for any punters who want to track profit and/or loss throughout the year.

Keeping track of sports betting tips is absolutely essential – whether you’re a professional punter or a novice bettor. An extensive log could turn out to be the difference between sports betting tips success and failure in the long term.

Take Advantage Of Free Sports Betting Tips

Free sports betting tips and offers can be very beneficial for punters, especially for novices who are just dipping their toe in the water. New customer offers are particularly enticing – with the chance to claim a plethora of free bets to get you started.

The best sports betting tips and tricks are known all around the globe and these can be put into practice for most sports.

Free tips and promotions help to minimise the initial risk and spending for punters while giving customers a chance to get used to sports betting tips with that bookmaker.

Meanwhile, there are plenty of sports betting tips experts who offer free advice to followers on social media. Each tipster has different levels of success though so be sure to do plenty of sports betting tips research before following any information. They will also have different approaches -- some will prefer odds-on bets, others will look for longer prices.

Some tipsters charge for sports betting tips, with many punters signing up to receive insight from some of the best tipsters in the betting industry.

Many are excellent at what they do and a large percentage of paid services provide detailed information relating to their tips, profit and betting help.

However, be wary of paying for sports betting tips. Just because a tipster offers a monthly subscription does not mean that they will guarantee profit.

Again, make sure you research all avenues and subscription services before committing to a paid sports betting tips service.

Find Suitable Sports Betting Tips System

There are various sports betting systems and trends – some specific to certain sports and others that are more general to all sports. It is important to remember that sports betting systems are not an exact science, though some can help to achieve consistent results.

One of the most popular sports betting strategies is to focus on handicap betting. Whether that is backing the favourite to win by more than one or on the underdog to avoid defeat, handicap betting can prove prudent for sports betting tips experts and novices alike.

Furthermore, some punters often choose to ‘double up’ bets with another selection at EVS or higher. Should the even money shot prevail, the double will roll on and the single paid out – essentially giving you a free chance to win the double.

However, this obviously carries a higher element of risk.

Once you have found a sports betting tips system that works for you on a particular sport, stick with it. Why change a winning formula?

As long as you are enjoying yourself and you are still finding sports betting tips fun and exciting, continue to follow that pattern.

A relatively modern concept, in-play betting is now one of the most popular types of bet with most bookmakers.

You’ll struggle to find many bookmakers who don’t offer in-play odds on their sports betting tips website and value is certainly there for the taking.

It can often prove prudent to back the clear favourite to win during a football match – either after falling behind or even to win the first half.

As is the case with any sports betting, each punter will have their own system and favoured markets for in-play wagering.

Find Value When In-Play Sports Betting

Odds can change quickly but it is important to think logically before looking too closely at in-play sports betting odds. Make sure that the price is fair and try to pick an event where you can live stream and watch how your bet unfolds.

Follow sports betting trends closely when venturing into in-play betting. Take the 2018 FIFA World Cup for example, punters could find favourable odds on a penalty to be awarded due to the introduction of VAR.

Make sure you are familiar with all rules and regulations before looking at in-play sports betting markets.

American Sports Betting Tips: Time Zones

Betting on US sports is incredibly popular on this side of the Atlantic Ocean but there are a few key factors to consider. One is weather; some areas of the United States are prone to adverse conditions, including snowstorms and lightning.

In many cases, matches are often temporarily paused or even postponed due to weather conditions and that is certainly something to consider when looking at American sports betting tips. Always expect the unexpected when it comes to weather in the US.

But the most important thing to consider is the time zone. If you are planning to watch a particular contest, take the time difference into account.

With matches taking place at unsociable times in the night over here, in-play betting may be taken out of the equation if you can’t stay awake!

    Always Gamble Responsibly

Perhaps the most important sports betting tip of all is to always gamble responsibly. Focus on the fun side of betting and bet within your means – that is the most effective way to enjoy the best sports betting tips and odds in the business.

With the option to add deposit limits, time reminders and cool off periods, there are a range of tools available for punters. This can also serve as a guide for customers to track deposits and withdrawals for their sports betting tips log.
