• Katie Taylor has helped put women’s boxing on the map in recent years.

  • Women’s boxing is starting to attract more attention, with the biggest fights taking centre stage on pay-per-view cards.

  • Claressa Shields is widely regarded as the top female boxer on the planet.

Women’s boxing has gone from strength to strength over the years, with a number of high profile female fighters coming through the ranks.

The best female boxers can win a fight at any moment – and the sport is thriving, with the likes of Claressa Shields and Katie Taylor dominating on the big stage.

Best Female Boxers:

Popular in boxing odds, the top female fighters often headline major bills and that is now the case in the United Kingdom and the United States of America.

Without further ado, it’s time to take a look at the best female boxers in the history of women’s boxing.

Laila Ali

As the daughter of heavyweight legend Muhammad Ali, Laila had to cope with plenty of pressure on her shoulders throughout her boxing career.

Like her father, Ali will go down in history as one of the greatest in her sport. She enjoyed an illustrious career, hanging up her gloves with an unbeaten 24-0 record to her name.

Ali’s impact on women’s boxing is all the more impressive given her father’s standing in the sport – his daughter won world titles at super-middleweight and light-heavyweight level.

With the nickname, ‘She Bee Stingin’, Ali paid tribute to her father every time she stepped into the ring and we shouldn’t ignore her own sports betting achievements.

Claressa Shields

The self-proclaimed ‘greatest female fighter of all time’, Shields has reigned supreme in three different weight classes, unifying each boxing weight class.

She has unified the light middleweight, super middleweight and middleweight divisions – making her one of the most successful female boxers to enter the ring.

Shields is the fastest ever two and three-weight world title winner in professional boxing AND she became the first American fighter to win medals at consecutive Olympic Games.

While her wealth has no comparison to Tyson Fury net worth figures, Shields is the biggest draw in boxing and American fans are very proud of how dominant she has been since making the transition to pro level.

Lucia Rijker

A former kickboxing champion, Rijker was labelled the world’s most dangerous woman at her prime and she is one of the most famous female boxers on this list.

The ‘Dutch Destroyer’ was the force of her generation, dominating the light-welterweight division. To put it into perspective, she set the benchmark for future generations.

Rijker finished her sensational boxing career with a perfect 17-0 record, with 14 of those victories coming by way of knockout.

To this day, Rijker is one of only three female Hall of Fame inductees. This alone puts her in an elite bracket of the best female boxers of all time.

Katie Taylor

One of the most established names in women’s boxing, Taylor has been there and done it all at every level – winning a gold medal at the 2021 Olympic Games.

She has enjoyed an incredible career so far and, under the wing of promoter Eddie Hearn, Taylor has flourished to become one of the best in the business.

Taylor changed boxing weight classes to become a two-weight world champion and she is now the undisputed lightweight queen.

Widely regarded as one of the most dominant female fighters in boxing, the Irish star looks set to light up the women’s boxing scene for many years to come.

Ann Wolfe

Known for her astonishing power punching ability, Wolfe is widely regarded as the hardest hitting female fighter in the history of the sport.

The American finished her career with 24 wins in 26 fights, stopping 16 of her opponents before announcing her long-awaited retirement in 2006.

Wolfe was one of the most dominant female fighters of her generation, suffering just one defeat against the then-world champion Valerie Mahfood in her fifth pro bout.

Her IBF light-heavyweight title in 2004 was a key moment. That success ensured that she emulated the legendary Henry Armstrong by holding three world titles in three different weight classes.

The Queen Mother Champion Chase is one of the most lucrative horse racing betting events at the Cheltenham Festival.

This race is the ultimate test for the ‘cream of the crop’ two-mile chasers and it has been dominated by the legendary Altior in recent years, though Politologue is the defending champion heading into the 2021 renewal.

More often than not, the previous year’s Arkle Challenge Trophy is used as a stepping stone for the Champion Chase so it may be wise to look back at previous Arkle results.

Here, we take a look at the standout trends, statistics and pointers ahead of the 2021 Queen Mother Champion Chase. This is the focal point of most Cheltenham Day 2 tips articles so it is one of the biggest races of the week!

Champion Chase Trainers:

The late Tom Dreaper and Nicky Henderson are tied on six Champion Chase winners apiece and there will be plenty of market support for the popular Altior at this year’s Festival.

Both men trained five winning horses, with Fortia and Altior claiming two wins in the race.

Henderson has trained five of the previous nine Queen Mother Champion Chase winners and he will be hoping for another success in 2021.

Along with the Champion Hurdle, the feature in Cheltenham Day 1 tips, this race is high up on the priority list.

Champion Chase Prize Money:

The total prize money on offer for the Queen Mother Champion Chase at the 2020 Cheltenham Festival was £400,000, with winning connections claiming £225,880.

Champion Chase Trial Races:

Without a doubt, the Clarence House Chase has been one of the hottest Champion Chase trials over the past 20 years.

With seven winners going to win Wednesday’s showpiece race at the Festival, the Clarence House Chase is definitely a race to follow closely when looking at Cheltenham racecourse betting odds.

The Tingle Creek Chase at Sandown Park is another big race to consider when placing your Queen Mother Champion Chase bets.

11 of the last 15 winners of the Festival race ran in the Tingle Creek earlier that season. That bodes well for 2020 Tingle Creek winner Politologue...

Meanwhile, the Paddy’s Rewards Club Chase at Leopardstown is arguably Ireland’s biggest Champion Chase trial.

Chacun Pour Soi was victorious in this race and the Willie Mullins star is a worthy favourite to give his trainer a first Queen Mother Champion Chase success.

Champion Chase 2020 Result:

The 2020 Queen Mother Champion Chase was billed as one of the races of the Festival but injuries to Altior and Chacun Pour Soi in the days leading up to the race put a dampener on the Wednesday feature.

Meanwhile, Defi Du Seuil failed to justify favouritism, running very poorly behind Politologue - a surprise winner of the race for Paul Nicholls.

Champion Chase 2021 Odds:

With less than two months until Cheltenham, the Champion Chase betting market is starting to take shape. Here are the latest Festival odds available with 888sport:

  • Chacun Pour Soi – 5/4

  • Politologue - 6/1

  • Altior - 9/1

  • Nube Negra - 10/1

  • Put The Kettle On - 14/1

  • Bar - 16/1

Here, we look at some of the most important Strictly Come Dancing betting trends – from popular professional dancers to former Strictly winners.

Check out these betting tips when looking at Strictly odds to win markets and hopefully your pick can lift the famous Glitterball trophy at the end of the season!

Strictly Odds – Strictly Come Dancing Tips

Bill Bailey and Oti Mabuse were crowned Strictly Come Dancing champions in 2020, much to the delight of dance and comedy fans across the United Kingdom.

A popular winner, Bill exceeded expectations from start to finish and his positive attitude sat well with the British public, earning the comedian plenty of votes.

Oti is one of only two professional dancers to win the Glitterball more than once – a fact that is worth remembering when betting on Strictly Come Dancing.

Without further ado, it is time to take a closer look at the most important trends and Strictly statistics that could help you with your next Strictly Come Dancing bet.

    Strictly Come Dancing History:

The first season of Strictly Come Dancing took place in 2004 and the show commands prime time status on a Saturday evening during the competition.

At the time of writing, 349 episodes of Strictly have aired since 2004 and a number of spin off shows have also enjoyed success, including It Takes Two and various Christmas specials.

In modern times, celebrities and professionals have often signed up to represent the show on the Strictly Come Dancing official tour – which usually takes place a few months after the competition.

Sir Bruce Forsyth will be forever remembered for his influence on Strictly Come Dancing, with his hard work and dedication helping to take the show to new heights.

Tess Daly has been an ever-present on Strictly, firstly presenting alongside Forsyth before Claudia Winkleman joined the show ahead of series 13.

The Strictly Come Dancing judges panel is made up of four experts, two of which (Craig Revel Horwood and Bruno Tonioli) have been on the show since day one.

Motsi Mabuse, sister to Strictly professional Oti, and head judge Shirley Ballas complete the line-up and the current set of judges are a huge hit with Strictly Come Dancing fans.

    Strictly Come Dancing Pros:

There are currently 12 professional dancers on Strictly, though many pros are hired for supporting roles throughout the season.

Oti Mabuse became the first pro to win back-to-back Glitterball trophies in 2020 and you can bet she will be a short price in Strictly odds to make it three in a row next year.

In 2020, Katya Jones became the first professional dancer to have a same sex partner. The Strictly veteran was paired up with double Olympic boxing champion Nicola Adams but the duo were forced to leave midway through the competition.

Anton du Beke deserves a special mention here. The Strictly Come Dancing legend has been on the show since the first series but is yet to lift the Glitterball trophy.

Could 2021 be his year? As always, Anton will be popular with the public but his Strictly odds to win will hang on the balance of his partner for the season.

    Strictly Come Dancing Winners:

Winning the Glitterball trophy is a dream come true - both for the celebrities and professionals. Here, we look at the previous winners of the famous Strictly title.

Male celebrities have been more successful on Strictly than females, winning 11 of the 18 seasons to date - including five of the last six years.

That is a significant Strictly betting trend that might be worth following in 2021 and beyond...

    Strictly Winner Odds:

Never write off an outsider. Bill Bailey was a 25/1 chance in Strictly odds for 2020 but he quickly blossomed into a fan favourite – it isn’t always a case of the ‘best dancer’ wins.

In fact, Strictly odds to win on a number of previous winners have been favourable. When betting on reality TV, it is important to remember that public perception can change very quickly.

So, our main tip when looking at Strictly Come Dancing betting odds is to consider the target audience. The British public love a Strictly betting underdog story so bear that in mind…

    Strictly Come Dancing Rumours:

Newspaper gossip columns will start to pick up pace as Strictly 2021 edges closer. There are a few rumours floating about already, with Strictly odds priced up on potential contestants.

Ben Shephard is just one of the names linked with appearing on Strictly Come Dancing, with reports stating that he has previously claimed he would love to go on the show.

Shephard has a dance background and would be able to gain invaluable insight from ITV colleagues and previous Strictly contestants Susanna Reid and Ranvir Singh.

Strictly betting and reality TV odds will chop and change based on Strictly Come Dancing rumours – be sure to do your own research and wait for official confirmation from the BBC.

    Strictly 2021 Betting:

Avid Strictly fans will be checking the latest line-up news and rumours and punters may be able to find favourable Strictly Come Dancing odds in ‘to be a contestant’ markets.

It may prove prudent to back a younger, social media savvy celebrity – the likes of Joe Sugg, Karim Zeroual and HRVY have all defied Strictly betting odds to reach the final.

Strictly 2021 win odds can be found via the 888sport website. At the time of writing, here are the current betting prices:

    • Tom Fletcher - 7/2

    • Rose Ayling-Ellis - 5/1

    • Rhys Stephensen 6/1

    • Robert Webb - 15/2

    • AJ Odudu - 8/1

    • Adam Peaty - 10/1

    • Katie McGlynn - 11/1

    • John Whaite - 12/1

    • Tilly Ramsey - 12/1

    • Dan Walker - 18/1

    • Sara Davis - 20/1

    • Ugo Monye - 20/1

    • Greg Wise - 20/1

    • Judi Love - 25/1

    • Wayne Rooney is England’s all-time leading goal scorer and one of the best players in Premier League history

    • Rooney is currently managing Derby County in the Championship

    • Estimates value Wayne Rooney net worth at $170 million

Wayne Rooney is at the centre of British football betting once again after a brief stint in the US.

    https://www.888sport.com/blog/football-prediction

Returning as a player with Derby County, the former Everton and Manchester United striker has stepped in as manager following the departure of Phillip Cocu.

    Wayne Rooney Net Worth:

He might not be making sports betting headlines on the pitch anymore, but Rooney is still one of the most famous figures in European football.

Just like other former players venturing into management, there’s additional attention on Derby because of Rooney and his private life remains a topic of interest for the tabloids.

Here’s everything you need to know about Wayne Rooney, including the latest Rooney salary information...

How Much Is Wayne Rooney Worth?

Wayne Rooney, according to Celebritynetworth.com, is worth around $170 million.

These earnings have primarily been built up through his football career, which he begun as a teenager with Everton. Several massive contracts with Manchester United followed.

Wayne Rooney net worth figures took a hit as he was never as marketable as other English football icons like David Beckham or Steven Gerrard, but he will have still earned several millions in endorsement deals over the years.

It was widely reported that Rooney was the highest-paid player in the Premier League until Paul Pogba re-signed with Manchester United. Rooney will have been paid handsomely for his stint with DC United, too.

    Wayne Rooney House:

Wayne Rooney lives in Mobberley, a small town just outside of Knutsford in Cheshire.

A very wealthy area where many Premier League footballers live, Rooney’s mansion is often valued at around £20 million. Reports from June 2020 claim Rooney built a full-size football pitch on the property.

The house comes with a 40-acre estate and in the summer of 2020 they built an access road, according to The Daily Mail.

Footballers are renowned for their extravagant homes. Each and every of Rooney’s properties has attracted the attention of tabloid reporters, though his six-bedroom Cheshire home is comparatively practical by footballer standards.

    Wayne Rooney Wife:

Wayne Rooney’s wife is Coleen. The couple started dating when they were in secondary school and got married in June 2008.

Coleen Rooney has become a celebrity in her own right. She has had her own TV series and written columns in magazines, including OK! and Closer.

Coleen has worked with Littlewoods in the past and received several million to front the advertising company for Asda’s brand, George.

Her most famous moment came in 2019, however, when she told the story of how she tried to discover who was leaking stories about her to The Sun. A court case with Rebekah Vardy followed in 2020.

    Wayne Rooney Children:

Wayne Rooney has four children with his wife, Coleen. The eldest is Kai Wayne, born in 2009. Klay Anthony was born in 2013 and Kit Joseph in January 2016. The youngest is Cass Mac, who was born in February 2018.

Kai Rooney signed with Manchester United in 2020. The footballing careers of all four of Wayne’s sons will be followed very closely.

    Wayne Rooney Derby:

The biggest Derby County transfer news in recent history was the arrival of Wayne Rooney from DC United. Rooney signed with Derby in August of 2019.

Despite having two years left on his DC United deal, the transfer was completed in the January window and Rooney immediately became captain – he assisted the opening goal in his January 2nd debut against Barnsley.

Derby struggled to start 2020-21. Their first win came through a late Rooney free-kick against Norwich, but Phillip Cocu was unable to get the team performing well on a regular basis. Rooney’s form wasn’t great, either.

On November 26th 2020, Rooney replaced Cocu on an interim basis and removed himself from the playing squad. He admitted it was possible he had played his final professional match.

    Wayne Rooney Hair Transplant:

Back in 2011, Wayne Rooney tweeted confirming he had undergone a hair transplant. Reports claimed the procedure cost Rooney around £30,000 (which is just a drop in the ocean considering his weekly salary at the time).

Rooney tweeted, “Just to confirm to all my followers I have had a hair transplant. I was going bald at 25 why not. I'm delighted with the result.”

He followed up with more information. “I had it done in Harley street hair clinic London. Thanks to all the staff who looked after me.”

Rooney was widely praised for his honesty about getting a hair transplant. He has since had to return for further appointments with the hair studio as his hair started thinning again a few years’ later.

    Wayne Rooney Twitter:

From one of the best young football players in the world to a Twitter sensation, Wayne Rooney’s Twitter account has become the stuff of social media legend with an array of viral tweets from the early days of the micro-blogging platform.

Rooney is much less active on Twitter now, though his old tweets frequently pop up. His handle is @WayneRooney, and his 17.1 million followers makes him one of the most followed English football players.

    • Eddie Hearn is widely regarded as the biggest promoter in boxing

    • He has promoted many world champions during his boxing promoter career, including Anthony Joshua, Carl Froch and Amir Khan

    • Eddie Hearn net worth figures estimate his wealth at £45 million in 2021.

Boxing betting fans will know all about Eddie Hearn. He is your typical pantomime villain – the people love to hate him but he is great for the sport.

    Bet Calculator

Hearn’s passion for boxing is eclipsed only by his thirst for money. Hearn has been very successful, building up a strong portfolio and Eddie Hearn net worth figures are rock solid.

How Much Is Eddie Hearn Worth?

You don't need to be a huge boxing fan to know who Hearn is. Eddie is now more of a sports personality than purely a boxing promoter, and anyone with social media will have seen the Eddie Hearn memes...

So, how much is Eddie Hearn worth? We look at the latest Eddie Health wealth estimates, while also discussing the boxing promoter’s life away from the ring.

    Eddie Hearn Net Worth:

Eddie Hearn wealth figures continue to increase, with net worth estimates now around the £45 million mark in 2021.

The dominant force in boxing promotion, Hearn has the bulk of the market share and the Eddie Hearn net worth numbers are expected to rise throughout the year.

While Anthony Joshua net worth numbers may surpass Hearn later this year, the promoter will ensure that he receives his fair share whenever AJ is fighting.

Hearn and Matchroom are now working with DAZN, with the two parties signing a £1 billion agreement to stream boxing fights around the world back in 2017.

    Eddie Hearn Twitter:

Although he isn’t the most followed sportsperson on social media, Eddie Hearn is active on Twitter – and he has amassed over 980,000 followers since joining the platform.

Hearn has been vocal on Twitter over the years, informing boxing fans of upcoming fight news and boxing contract negotiations.

Furthermore, he has supported plans for the release of a new boxing video game though talks of a new Fight Night game have quieted down in recent months.

Not afraid to speak his mind and call fighters out, Hearn is one of the best in the business and he uses his social media channel to his advantage.

    Eddie Hearn House:

When you have Eddie Hearn net worth figures, you can own any property you want. Eddie owns a number of properties but his expressionist house in Los Angeles is stunning.

However, the famous property associated with the Hearn family is in Essex. Now the home of Matchroom, Barry Hearn purchased the property around 30 years ago.

While it cost a hefty £200,000, that is a meagre sum of money compared to its current value and it is now the home of boxing, snooker and darts.

With a gym, swimming pool and huge garden onsite, Hearn’s fighters and athletes have access to some of the best facilities in sport.

Eddie Hearn actually held a range of ‘Fight Camp’ nights in the garden during 2020, with the sufficient requirements and space to televise these unique boxing events.

    Eddie Hearn Wife:

Eddie Hearn’s other half is the beautiful Chloe Hearn. The couple have had two children together; Isabella, born in 2010, and Sophia, born in 2012.

Chloe is the co-owner of a beauty salon, Chloe’s Beauty Bar, in Brentwood. While her wealth is nothing compared to Eddie Hearn net worth levels, Chloe more than does her bit.

A committed mother and loving wife, Chloe Hearn is the perfect sidekick to the famous boxing promoter. Keeping Eddie in check must be difficult at times!

    Eddie Hearn Dad:

Eddie’s father is Barry Hearn, a former accountant who is the founder of Matchroom Sport. According to sources, Barry started the foundation to benefit his sports mad son.

While not as famous as Eddie, Barry Hearn net worth figures are substantial and he is known around the world – particularly with boxing, darts and snooker fans.

Eddie Hearn failed to make it past sixth form at Brentwood School, though Barry requested the school management to allow Eddie to stay on for his sporting skills.

Barry Hearn is an iconic figure in the sports betting world and his impact in Eddie’s success should not be understated. Eddie himself is always the first to acknowledge his father’s input.

    Eddie Hearn Height:

Standing at 6 foot tall, Eddie Hearn is actually taller than the average British male – though he often looks much shorter stood next to his heavyweight fighter clients.

Hearn keeps himself in fantastic shape, putting the same effort and commitment into his own body as he does with many of his fighters.

He is his own harshest critic at times, commenting on minor weight gains but we think Hearn is in tiptop condition. It would be great to see him in action in the boxing ring!

    Eddie Hearn GIF:

The Eddie Hearn Oh Go On Then clip has gone viral, largely thanks to Twitter account @NoContextHearn.

You could argue that Hearn himself knows that he is a meme and now plays up to the camera during interviews but that only enhances the comedic value.

There are plenty of Eddie Hearn GIFs out there – it is easy to spend many hours flicking through the countless clips of Hearn floating around on social media.

So what are you waiting for? Let us know your favourite Eddie Hearn GIF with a tweet to us at @888sport!

Liverpool and Manchester United are two of the biggest football clubs in the world. With just 30 miles separating these two giants of English football, there is a fierce rivalry in the local area.

Football betting fans will be familiar with both clubs. Each team has enjoyed dominant eras of success, with Liverpool dominating the 1970s and 80s while Man United were the best English club in the 1990s and 2000s.

    Man United vs Liverpool Rivalry:

Nowadays, the pendulum has turned back towards Liverpool. The Manchester United vs Liverpool ‘biggest club’ debate is up in the air but nobody could dispute that the defending Premier League champions are the top English football club right now.

However, history tells us that there is little to choose between the two clubs. Man United vs Liverpool is always going to be one of the top rivalries in British football, whether both clubs are fighting for the Premier League title or not.

Liverpool v Man Utd - Revenue:

When it comes to commercial revenue, Manchester United are the gold standard. One of the richest football clubs in the world, the Red Devils have led the way in England for some time and that is unlikely to change in the near future.

According to figures obtained by Forbes, Man United are the third richest football club on the planet. The Old Trafford club had an estimated $795 million revenue stream, confirming their status as one of the top earning teams in football.

Meanwhile, Liverpool ranked seventh on the Forbes list. The Reds’ revenue figures for 2020 were $613 million – though Liverpool may climb the chart in 2021 after an excellent year on and off the pitch.

In terms of the Liverpool v Man Utd supporters argument, it is once again difficult to find exact figures. Liverpool are popular in North America while Man United command the share of Asian football fans.

Looking specifically at supporters in attendance, Old Trafford is the biggest Premier League stadium but there are atmosphere issues. Anfield is slightly smaller but the venue is arguably more intimate, particularly during memorable European nights.

Liverpool fans say they are the best. Man Utd fans say they are the best. That is part and parcel of being a football fan. Two of the most supported football clubs in the world, this rivalry is on par with the Old Firm and El Clasico.

Man Utd vs Liverpool - Players:

While the days of Steven Gerrard, Paul Scholes, Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville are well and truly over, there are still elements of rivalry. Marcus Rashford is Manchester born and bred while Trent Alexander-Arnold has worked his way up through the Liverpool academy.

Nowadays, the modern football rivalry is cleaner but Man Utd vs Liverpool still carries plenty of bite. From the likes of Carragher and Neville, two of the best football pundits, bantering in the studio pre-match to frosty exchanges between the managers.

The Scholes vs Gerrard argument has raged on for years and we’ve now got a similar debate regarding current stars Bruno Fernandes and Mohamed Salah. Both men are crucial to their respective clubs and Liverpool vs Manchester United would be a weaker affair without these big name players.

Fernandes has developed a reputation for being a penalty merchant, though that is perhaps unfair. Five of Salah’s Premier League goals this season have been spot-kicks and punters will be expecting a penalty to be awarded in the next Man United v Liverpool game.

    Manchester United v Liverpool

Plenty of football betting experts will be offering Premier League predictions on Liverpool vs Man Utd but separating these two great clubs is no easy feat. They are evenly matched in so many ways – and both are a real joy to watch.

Both teams have enjoyed success but both have also had to endure tragedy. The Munich Air Disaster of 1958 and the Hillsborough disaster in 1989 bring these two clubs close on a human level, not just a football level.

There is a mutual respect between the two clubs, with both clubs offering sympathy to one another on anniversary dates. Two of the best run clubs in world football, Man United vs Liverpool is fierce on the pitch but compassionate off it.

Man United vs Liverpool - Biggest Club:

It is difficult to measure the exact size of a football club. The Manchester United v Liverpool debate can be assessed by a number of factors, including but not limited to financial power, supporters, trophies won and average attendance.

In terms of major honours, the Liverpool Man Utd rivalry is very difficult to split. It depends on what you class as a ‘major’ trophy though most football fans would agree that the league title, FA Cup, European Cup and League Cup all rank in that bracket.

Liverpool vs Man United sees two of the most successful clubs in the world do battle – and it is always a thrilling spectacle. It isn’t a title defining clash but it is fantastic to see these great teams fighting it out at the top of the Premier League table.

Millions of football fans around the world will be tuning in for Man Utd vs Liverpool and let’s hope it lives up to the hype. With such a long history, regional proximity and jealousy from both sides, this truly is one of the great football rivalries.

    • There are a total of 16 Grand National fences, with many obstacles jumped on more than one occasion throughout the race

    • Many fences on the circuit are famous in the horse racing world, with names such as Foinavon, The Chair & Becher’s Brook springing to mind

    • Tiger Roll will bid to emulate the great Red Rum by winning his third Grand National in 2021

The Grand National is one of the biggest horse racing events of the season. Punters can find horse racing odds on the Aintree race months in advance and it is a must watch for racing fans around the world.

First held in 1839, the Grand National is widely regarded as the most valuable jumps race in Europe – with an estimated £1 million in prize money on offer.

The Aintree spectacle is iconic in British culture, with many non-horse racing fans tuning in to watch the Grand National every April.

    Grand National Fences – Guide:

There are 16 fences on the Grand National course, with Aintree obtaining the spruce from the Lake District.

Now made of a flexible plastic material, the fences were rebuilt in 2012 to improve safety compared to traditional wooden fences.

Every fence is jumped at least once but the Chair and the Water Jump are avoided on the final circuit – with runners bearing right for the run to the finishing line.

Different fences bring different challenges, both for runners and riders. Here, we take a look at some of the most well known Grand National fences at Aintree…

    Famous Grand National Fences:

If you are a passionate horse racing fan, the chances are you will already know many of the Grand National fences.

But for the horse racing novice, we’re going to talk you through some of the most famous fences at Aintree racecourse.

Soon enough, you’ll be able to name all of the Aintree fences in any Grand National quiz! So, let’s get down to the five most famous Grand National obstacles…

    Becher’s Brook

Arguably the most famous Grand National fence on the circuit, Becher’s is a popular vantage point with spectators – with a chance for a horse to show off an exuberant leap.

Inexperienced jockeys can get Becher’s Brook wrong, with the steep landing side catching many riders by surprise – some of the best jockeys of all time have been caught out by this unforgiving Grand National fence.

The fence is named after Captain Martin Becher, who fell at the obstacle in the inaugural Grand National.

    Foinavon

The story of Foinavon fence is legendary. It is named after the 1967 Grand National winner, who avoided a melee at the fence to go on and win the race at 100/1.

The fence itself is one of the smallest on the Aintree circuit, making Foinavon’s incredible triumph all the more sensational.

You’d get good Grand National odds on a similar incident occurring in 2021 – fingers crossed all 40 runners and riders make it over Foinavon safely!

    Canal Turn

Notoriously tricky, the Canal Turn has a sharp 90-degree turn immediately after landing. Get this Grand National fence wrong and your chance of victory could be over!

Those watching on television can see just how tight the Canal Turn is, though the layout of the fence has changed somewhat over the years – there used to be a ditch prior to this fence many years ago.

If your horse is still in contention approaching the Canal Turn on the second circuit, you’ll be fairly happy.

    Valentine’s Brook

Initially known as the Second Brook, this famous Grand National fence was named after the 1840 race.

According to stories, Valentine jumped the obstacle with his hind legs first – which would have been quite incredible to watch, particularly over the Grand National fences.

A grandstand was built next to Valentine’s in the early part of the 20th century but it wasn’t the best viewing spot on the Aintree circuit and it was eventually torn down following the Second World War.

    The Chair

The only Grand National fence to claim a human life in the race, The Chair is one of the most imposing fences at Aintree racecourse.

With the ground six inches higher on the landing side, The Chair is the polar opposite fence to Becher’s Brook – though it is equally as testing for that reason.

Saint Xavier was a famous faller at The Chair in the 2020 Virtual Grand National – following in the footsteps of many legendary horses falling at this obstacle in real life.

Although not a prevalent name in sports betting these days, Eddie Hall is a recognisable face in the United Kingdom.

    888sport stories

Hall is a former World’s Strongest Man, having won the title back in 2017. He has since become a celebrity, featuring on television and various YouTube channels.

    Eddie Hall Net Worth:

Hall’s rise through the strongman world has translated into national fame. His book, inventively called ‘Strongman’, proved popular – check out our best sports autobiographies article to see if it makes the cut.

Still in his early thirties, Hall’s career as a strongman might have come to an end, but his time in the spotlight might just be beginning. Here’s everything you need to know about the 2017 World’s Strongest Man…

How Much Is Eddie Hall Worth?

Eddie Hall’s net worth is estimated to be $5 million. Hall still resides in Newcastle-under-Lyme, which is where he was born in 1988.

The transformation from strongman to all round celebrity has seen Hall build worth well beyond what most people in the strongman world receive.

The sales of Hall’s autobiography, Strongman, will have contributed to that net worth, as well as his string of endorsements. The World’s Strongest Man prize money is believed to be around $72,000.

    Eddie Hall vs Thor

Eddie Hall and Hafthor Bjornsson will compete in what has been dubbed the ‘heaviest boxing match in history’ in September 2021.

    https://www.888sport.com/blog/football-prediction

Hall and Bjornsson are long-time foes, having gone head-to-head in multiple World’s Strongest Man contests. Their rivalry is leaving the world of heavy lifting and transferring to the heavyweight ring.

It’s fair to say there’s a bit of tension between the two. Bjornsson claimed that Hall cheated on his way to winning the 2017 World’s Strongest Man.

While Hall appeared to disprove those claims on his YouTube channel, the drama surrounding those comments from Bjornsson will loom large when the pair fight in Las Vegas.

This fight has been rumoured for a long time, but it was only confirmed late in 2020. Unsurprisingly, the chirping has already begun.

Hall said, “I’m training for this fight like I trained to be the strongest man in the world, no stone unturned and anyone in my way is getting milled down.

"With the experience MTK Global [the official boxing advisers to organisers Core Sports] brings to the table, this event will be even better than it was going to be.

"As for the fight itself, I have zero doubt in my mind that cry baby Thor is getting folded in half and sent packing back to Iceland.”

New to boxing? Here’s a useful explainer on boxing weight classes.

    Eddie Hall Height

Eddie Hall is 6’3, the same height as Golden State Warriors superstar and former NBA MVP Steph Curry. Manchester United midfielder and World Cup winner Paul Pogba is also 6’3.

The average height of strongmen competitors is around 6’2, with the smallest being 5’10 and the tallest ever being just below 6’9.

    Eddie Hall Weight

According to his Wikipedia page, Eddie Hall weighs 186kg. Reports as recently as December 2020 claimed Hall was closer to 160kg, however, as he looks to shed weight ahead of his fight with Hafthor Bjornsson.

Even at his reduced weight, Hall is still over 25 stone. To give some context, the heaviest boxing champion in history weighed around 23 stone.

Despite claiming his boxing training is similar to his strongman prep, Hall’s decision to lose some mass before the fight will likely prove to be beneficial.

    Eddie Hall Deadlift

Eddie Hall’s competition record for a deadlift with straps and suit is 500 kilograms.

With just straps, Hall managed 463 kilograms. In March 2016, he set the world record of 465 kilograms for a deadlift, but the record only stood for a few months.

He went on to break the world record in June of the same year – first going to 465 kilograms before the famous 500-kilogram deadlift.

For many, this is when Hall became known outside the strongman community.

    Eddie Hall Wife

Eddie Hall is married to Alexandra Hall, who he lives with in Newcastle-under-Lyme. Alexandra Hall has the challenge of preparing six monster meals for her husband every day to keep up with his gargantuan appetite.

Looking after two young children, it’s a very busy household. Speaking to the Stoke Sentinel, Alexandra said, “Eddie trains seven days a week, and it’s very rare that he gets a day off to just relax and watch Netflix or something.

“For four days a week, he will do 45 minutes of cardio and three hours of weights during the day, he’ll have an afternoon nap, then dinner and then he will do his boxing training.”

Alexandra has a substantial personal Instagram following, too, and famously beat her husband in a fitness challenge during the first lockdown of 2020.

    Eddie Hall Age

Eddie Hall was born on 15th January 1988. At the time of writing, he is 32 years old, the same age has his arch-rival, Thor.

Hall attended Clayton High School but was expelled when he was 15. Home tutoring followed, and he was a mechanic in Market Drayton when he was 20.

Weightlifting became a part of his life, and by 2010 he was competing at the England Championships.

A swimmer and rugby player as a teenager, featuring in UFC odds was a long way from Hall’s mind when he was growing up, but anything is possible as he prepares for his September fight.

    Eddie Hall Instagram

Eddie Hall is very active on Instagram. His handle is @eddiehallwsm and his verified account has just under two and a half million followers as of 4th January 2021.

He’s approaching 1,400 total posts on the account – how many followers will he have by September?
